Your opportunity:

The Office of the Vice Dean, Research, Innovation & Health Science Education oversees all research undertaken for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and coordinates with its counterparts at the affiliated hospital research institutes for clinical research. This includes grant proposal development, administering internal funding allocations, collecting and reporting on research productivity metrics, and managing core research facilities.

As the Research Funding & Awards Officer, you will support the Office of the Research, Innovation & Health Science Education in advancing research funding and impact across the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Working in collaboration with faculty, administrators, the Division of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation, and other internal and external stakeholders, you will support the development and submission of research funding applications, enhance proposal materials to meet sponsor and institutional guidelines, and contribute to awards-related processes. Drawing on your strong editorial, analytical, and coordination skills, you will also support project planning, reporting, and initiatives that advance the Faculty’s broader research priorities.



Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and guiding applicants through various phases of the research funding application process, along with writing and editing funding proposals
  • Conducting detailed analysis of application policy to maximize research funding and research trends to strengthen proposals, including advising on application content andfunding opportunities
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for funding activities as well as developing plans that support proposal development strategies
  • Researching and analyzing potential research awards and prizes and recommending academics for nomination, including drafting and editing recommendation letters
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables, reporting and tracking milestones and timelines by generating reports
  • Developing and implementing communication plans including producing promotional and outreach materials, drafting and delivering presentations, and writing and editing reports
  • Collating and organizing materials for research proposal submissions and verifying that submission materials meet required standards
  • Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree ina related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in research administration, research funding, proposal development, and awards processes, preferably within an academic, healthcare, or research environment
  • Experience with the federal and provincial grant cycles and funding programs, including infrastructure grants (CFI), Tri-Agency operating grants (CIHR/NSERC/SSHRC) and Canada Research Chairs (CRC)
  • Demonstrated experience with development of funding applications from drafting proposals and supporting their associated budgets, to submission
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with senior administrators and responding to and handling matters of a complex and sensitive nature
  • Demonstrated experience with drafting senior level documents including writing and editing nomination letters for awards
  • Familiarity with research funding and awards opportunities databases and resources
  • Demonstrated project management coordination experience
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office and related software, including advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to write concise and informative reports and proposals
  • Ability to work with research funding databases and related systems
  • Client-services oriented with demonstrated listening and critical thinking skills
  • Strong planning and project management skills, with the ability to manage deadlinesand complete tasks under pressure
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, senior administration, and external stakeholders
