We work closely with a wide variety of individuals, families and small to medium sized, owner-managed businesses in the Red Deer area to support their accounting, business advisory and tax planning needs.

Staff Accountant
As our newest staff accountant, your aim is to work directly with our corporate and personal clients. If you love variety and challenge, this could be a great fit for you.
Unlike other accounting roles that are narrowly specialized, in this position you’ll get your hands on everything we do and develop a full range of skills.
Your goal, and ours, is to add value to our clients by evaluating their current financial situation and business results.
You’re conscientious, take great pride in your work, and treat your client’s books as if they were your own. You also embrace variety and multi-tasking –
you’re flexible and adaptable, able to change with the flow of the business and transition smoothly between many tasks.
You are independent, and don’t need a lot of direction or hand-holding. We’re a small team, so we want you to be a great teammate, eager to constantly improve your skills and knowledge, and earn the trust and confidence of the people around you.
On a practical level, you will :
- Prepare year-end working papers, financial statements and tax returns via Caseware, Jazz-it, and Taxprep
- Prepare and review payroll, remittances and T4 summaries as well as T5 dividend returns
- Prepare reconciliations – bank and credit card statements
- Ensure compliance with corporate and personal tax, payroll and GST
- Perform all necessary tax preparation and filing, and maintain a deep understanding of federal and provincial tax requirements
- Actively engage our clients to ensure their corporate or personal accounting and tax situation gets the attention it deserves.
- Assist other team members by sharing your knowledge and experience.
Working at Swainson Alexander LLP
This is a full-time, permanent position, located in downtown Red Deer. Days of work are Monday thru Friday, 8 : 30-4 : 30, and at tax time (February to April) it’
s typical for us to work 10 to 15 hours of overtime per week.

Specifically, we would like you to have the following qualifications :
- Experience in bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting, including account reconciliations, payroll and GST,
- Experience in the preparation of financial statements and personal and corporate tax returns
- You have CCH Document, Caseware, Jazz-it, or Taxprep experience (an asset)
- You’ve either worked in a small organization and love wearing many hats, or you know you’d excel in a varied role
- You understand that as a small team we all do what we can to help our clients
- You are comfortable with who you are, can communicate well with others and understand that with learning comes correction but you have the goal of being the best you can be and helping others be their best also
- Excellent Microsoft Office and especially Microsoft Excel skills
- CPA designation in process an asset
