Main Purpose and Function

The Planning Analyst will provide a range of technical and analytical skills to a team in City-Wide & Regional Planning that is working to simplify the City’s land use regulations and policies to help streamline permit processing and also to support the development of the Vancouver Official Development Plan.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist a team involved in a major review of the City’s development approvals process, including research, drafting content, developing graphics, maintaining project files, and process design.
  • Assist with identifying opportunities to simplify and consolidate regulations and find opportunities to reconcile conflicts between various regulations and policies
  • Assist with coordination and oversight of graphic design and editing consultants
  • Create / assist with PowerPoint presentations, information display boards and associated graphics for public consultation and for inclusion in reports and policy documents
  • Conduct research, monitor and collect data, develop and maintain spreadsheets / databases as needed to assist with consultation with other City departments and agencies
  • Support engagement and consultation activities with other City staff and the public

Qualifications

Education and Experience :

University degree in planning or a related discipline, or a technical degree, diploma or university degree in a discipline providing a solid background in graphic skills, document creation and editing, with experience related closely to the duties involved.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated graphics skills and computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), or other similar graphic software and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team.
  • Able to demonstrate sound research and analytical abilities and experience.
  • Ability to work independently as an effective member of a team, and in collaboration with staff from other departments and ability to complete assignments using sound professional techniques and judgment.
  • A proven ability to self-manage workload, take initiative with respect to work planning, respond to changing priorities and to meet tight timelines.
  • Interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Data, research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of City by-laws, processes and policies would be an asset.

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite.

At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
