Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux School (SVNS) is seeking an experienced Director of Education who is
looking for an opportunity to excel in a professional and culturally enriched environment.
Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux School is an established Independent School recognized by the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Lytton BC and offers K4 to Grade 12 along with adult and post-secondary programming.
The school has been operating since 1993 and has recently implemented a twelve-month cultural
calendar. SVNS is an innovative school that weaves Nlaka’pamux culture and language with a

JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Education is the professional leader of the Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux School Society.
S / he is responsible for overseeing the Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux School, adult education
programming, transportation, operations and maintenance of all capital assets (school,
maintenance buildings, teacher housing, school buses and gas station) financial management and
control. This position is an employee of the Board of Directors, the Director of Education
manages and implements the strategic plan, policies and works in collaboration with Human Resources
manager under the direction and guidance of the Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux Board.
This position is a leadership role that provides guidance and direction to a team of diverse educators and to weave together a learning environment of excellence.
The Director will work closely and in collaboration with the School Principal and the SVNS Board.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS :
Master of Education (Administrative Leadership or Equivalent)
Educational Leadership (or Equivalent) Experience, minimum 5 years
Teaching Experience - minimum of 5 years, preferably in a First Nations School
Experience working collaboratively with and advising Boards of Education
A strong record of positive and collaborative relationships with community, staff and stakeholders
Experience in management which includes setting priorities, delegation and project development
Experience in supporting the development of policy and procedure and leading organizational change
In-depth knowledge of the new BC Ed curriculum, and other Educational Programs
Knowledge of public, independent and band operated schools
Knowledge of post-secondary institutes, programming and funding
Innovative and Creative Leadership Experience
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including technology
Financial experience including forecasting, proposal / grant writing, record keeping and audits
Facilitation experience and Conflict Resolution skills and Management
Negotiation and Mediation Experience
Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations.
