Financial Analyst

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Business Unit Controller and Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that acts as a business partner driving financial goals alignment and optimal operational execution.

Providing Operations Finance support including operational data analysis, revenue and cost measurement and control, financial results analysis, forecasting, and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Closing

• Preparation of P&L by division and by site
• Review site P&L’s with stakeholders. Partner with operations to ensure all revenue and costs are accurately recorded by division and by site
• Investigate actual vs planned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) variances for period end reviews
• Provide timely results reporting to management, expanding reporting to include KPI’s as they are developed and expanded

Operations Finance Support

• Act as a business partner to site managers on P&L management
• Data collection & analysis to track and monitor financial performance drivers (efficiency, volume and customer mix)
• Collects, analyses, reviews, and reports on the current and new KPIs

Budgeting / Forecasting

• Being the key participant in the development of forecasts and annual budgets in collaboration with operation and other functional groups
• Use financial analytics to develop insights and recommendations to help drive business results
• Partner with operations to identify opportunities for revenue and cost optimization

Special Projects / Financial Support

• Participate in special projects to improve process efficiency and performance
• Supports the execution of strategic initiatives; includes tracking metrics and milestones
• Participate in systems migration and other IT projects
• Financial modelling for new business opportunities
• Ad-hoc tasks as required

EXPERIENCE

• Expert knowledge of Excel (e.g. Power Pivot) is essential, experience with PBI desirable
• Experience with ERP system and data visualization tools
• Experience working with large data sets to create reports, analyzing this data and summarizing the data in a format for presentation to other functional groups and senior management
• Strong technical and analytical expertise and the ability to translate data into actionable information and fact based decision making
• Problem solver with the ability to analyze and prioritize to meet business objectives
• Self-motivated in process improvement, drive for deeper understanding, and push for efficiency without sacrificing accuracy
• Excellent interpersonal skills, good at collaborating with others, and solution focused
• Strong oral and written communication skills, competent in time management
• Working knowledge of transportation management system (TMS) software is an asset

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant business field or equivalent experience in Operations Finance at a transportation or logistics company
• Minimum 4+ years of experience in finance and accounting
• Accounting designation or in final stages in the CPA program
