Our EXCEL program has many exciting opportunities for Before and or After School Group Leader positions within our schools throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Pay, Hours & Perks :

  • Rate of pay is $18.82 per hour plus vacation pay.
  • EXCEL Group Leader positions are 5 days per week and require staff to be available 30 minutes prior to the end of the regular school day.

While the start time of the Before / After school shift varies from site to site, most Before school shifts begin at 7 : 30am.

Most After school shifts begin around 2pm.

  • Various paid training opportunities available including High Five, First Aid / CPR, Fundamental Movement Skills, etc.

Requirements :

  • Must have a minimum of one year's experience working with elementary age students
  • Knowledge of recreational programming
  • Must possess strong communication skills
  • Have ability to work as part of a team
  • High School Completion Certificate or equivalent

Asset :

Possession of a valid First Aid / CPR Certification is considered an asset

Employment with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education is contingent upon providing a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a completed Child Abuse Registry Search prior to starting employment.

Candidates are encouraged to submit a Child Abuse Register Request for Search (Form A link here) to the Department of Community Services for processing to avoid delays.
