The Manager, Clinical Support works in close collaboration with the Director, Clinical Research Unit and Clinical staff to manage team and offer support at the various stages of the management of Clinical Research.
The manager is responsible to lead the activities and for overseeing the day-to-day management of the following groups :
- CRU (Clinical Research unit) Regulatory Affairs
- Clinical Research Coordinator Assistants and Team Lead
- Laboratory staff
- Patient Recruitment

RESPONSIBILITIES
More specifically, the Manager, Clinical Support must :
Employee management
- Manages performance, conducts formal performance reviews and talent conversation meeting with each employees of their group
- Responsible to ensures that adequate resources are available to sustain clinical research unit activities (, hiring, headcount, training, support)
- Ensure adequate training of their group and oversees best practices to ensure alignment of practices across the team through adoption and use of all process and technology tools
- Manages the team by enticing their commitment and encouraging positive communication and openness to feedback.
Laboratory
- Oversees the activities of the clinical laboratory;
- Project selection and startup;
- Prepare the various study start-up questionnaires and the coordination of qualification visits to the research site in collaboration with the Director with their team;
Recruitment
- Establishes and manages recruitment plans for upcoming and ongoing studies;
- Provides and analyzes relevant data and statistics related to recruitment initiatives;
- Manages publication of the Clinical Research unit advertisement;
- Ensures the profitability of the business unit by analyzing the costs and benefits of the patient recruitment department;
- Improves the overall quality of call center operations by providing continuous improvements;
General
- Manages daily operations while ensuring compliance with service and quality standards;
- Optimize the performance of patient recruitment team by improving communication with the clinic;
- Reviews and follows standard operating procedures;
- Collaborates with the Director CRU (Clinical Research unit) in the general and constant improvement of the procedures or the CRU and recruitment team;
- Participates in audits of clients and inspections of regulatory bodies;
- Supervises the collection, monitoring and update of regulatory documents carried out by the regulatory affairs assistant;
- Contributes to the operation and / or corporate initiatives and in the assignment of special projects for the Clinical Research Unit;
- Collaborates in the preparation and revision of SOPs and related tools;
Employee may be assigned to other responsibilities that do not pertain to their former description, if they have the required experience, are qualified and / or have received adequate training.
IDEAL PROFILE
Education
Bachelor of Science or any other relevant specialization;
Experience
At least five years of experience in a medical or research environment including years in a management position;
Knowledge and skills
- Demonstrates strong skills in management and continuous improvement;
- Demonstrates strong communication and listening skills;
- Bilingual (French and English), excellent oral and written skills;
- Demonstrates an ability to learn quickly and an intellectual curiosity;
- Ability to work in a team and to work on several tasks at the same time;
- Integrity, diligence and rigor;
- Sense of organization, initiative and autonomy;
- Versatile and comfortable in a multitasking environment;
- Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
- Good knowledge of good clinical practices, and applicable Health Canada and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations / guidelines.
