Job Information and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Human Resource Operations, the HR Advisor :
- Coordinates the full cycle recruitment process for staff positions, including participating in the selection process with a specific focus on matters of employment law, collective agreement requirements, human rights and employment equity.
- Evaluates recruitment and selection procedures; develops a comprehensive staff recruitment and selection policy / procedures, which meet the needs of the University.
- Provides support to assigned client groups about labour relations functions, including performance management, policies and procedures, and collective agreement interpretation and implementation.
- Develops, implements and manages processes and procedures that assist with the effective execution of the Collective Agreements (primarily NSGEU179, CUPE4491, and CUPE3912, teaching assistants).
- Takes a proactive role in positive relationship development with Managers, Supervisors, employees and their union representatives.
- Coordinates the onboarding process for new hires that influences job success. Works with managers to ensure new employees and current employees transferring to new positions are successfully onboarded.
- Reviews monthly probationary assessments and works with department Managers to support with new hires throughout the probationary period.
- Oversees the exit interview process, identifying areas for improvement arising from exit interviews and makes recommendations for change.
- Works collaboratively with the People and Culture team.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
Experience and Education Requirements
To be the successful HR Advisor you will have :
- Undergraduate degree with concentration in Human Resources Management or Undergraduate degree plus certificate / diploma in Human Resources Management.
- Minimum three years directly related experience in a human resources role.
- Working knowledge with collective agreements, human rights, government legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of human resources best practices and demonstrated commitment to the promotion of equity and inclusiveness in the workplace and the ability to work effectively with all constituents in a highly diverse community.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; written and oral communication.
- Consultative, influencing, coaching, facilitation, listening and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven organizational, planning, multitasking and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and deal with stressful situations, but also work effectively within a team.
- Computer competency essential (Microsoft Office).
- Experience with an HRIS is required, Banner experience an asset.
- Requirement to maintain strict confidentiality.
- CPHR considered an asset.
