Overview of the Role or Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position specializes in automation, control and electricity for the Georgetown location.

The Automation Controls Lead is responsible for programming on PLCs, operator interfaces and instrumentation to implement various plant improvement / optimization projects.

The candidate will use their strong leadership skills to guide their direct reports and ensure the development / design of projects and implementation are within budget.

Their continuous improvement and customer focus skills will ensure they are following various engineering projects are compliance in relation to automated systems.

How you will make contributions that matter :

  • Plan, manage and support the plant in the different improvement / optimization projects.
  • In conjunction with the external process automation contractor, responsible to respond, troubleshoot and mitigate all control related issues
  • Update technical documentation, PLC for troubleshooting and the various Licenses essential to the proper functioning of the plan.
  • Actively participate in the development and maintenance of installation standards.
  • Carry out automation work (programming) and instrumentation of the various systems developed.
  • Collaborate with the electrical engineering team in the design and programming of the system control logic and operator interfaces (HMI).
  • Collaborate with the maintenance department to maintain troubleshooting of PC’s, purchasing of equipment and development of troubleshooting procedures and coaching to optimize downtime.
  • Prepares budget estimates in close collaboration with other departments.
  • Establish controls and links with the OT / IT department to implement certain plant or maintenance requirements.

You are best suited for the role if you :

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automated production engineering or other relevant training.
  • In good standing with the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, or other provincial equivalent.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of automation, including an understanding of operator interfaces (HMI), PLC and operator interface programming languages, Wonderware Archestra and InTouch, and PLC programming (Allen Bradley and Wago).
  • Excellent knowledge of Ethernet, devicenet, Modbus, Profinet, ASI and other networks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and process skills
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software and Office suite.
  • Recognized leadership and autonomy, excellent communication, planning and work organization skills.
