International Centre Post-Graduate Intern

Position description

This internship position is intended as a learning opportunity for a recent graduate from Mount Allison University that will provide the incumbent with a chance to be part of the ongoing internationalization of Mount Allison University, while developing skills and competencies in the areas of international student services, study abroad and exchange programs, and EAL programming (the MASSIE program and the English Summer Pathway Program).

Position Responsibilities

Work in an administrative setting alongside the Manager of Global Learning, the International Student Advisor, the International Pathway Programs Manager, the MASSIE teachers and other International Centre staff.

The ICI will welcome visitors in-person to the International Centre, respond to inquiries, manage social media accounts and facilitate the overall smooth operations of the office;

the expectation will be that the ICI work full-time in-person in the International Centre

• Work with the Manager of Global Learning to support, promote, and advance Mount Allison’s study abroad & exchange programs;
• Work with the Manager of Global Learning to support, promote and advance the MASSIE Program;
• Work with the International Student Advisor to support, promote and run international student services (e.g. International Orientation, the International Mentorship Program, health insurance and immigration services, trips & activities, etc.);
• Work with the International Pathway Programs Manager to support, promote and advance the Summer Pathway Program (SPP).
• Work with students, staff, faculty, and other interested stake-holders to support, promote, and coordinate opportunities for greater international awareness, engagement, and cross- cultural learning opportunities (e.

g. International Education Week, International Development Week, Black History Month, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, etc.).

• Take on at least one special project in the area of event management, program development and / or program management, research, or website design and development, depending on the ICI’s specific areas of interest.
• Complete internship reflections at the beginning, mid-point and end of their appointment.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / skills

• A graduate from Mount Allison within the past academic year (October 2023, May 2024 or October 2024 grad) with direct experience in programs and services offered by Mount Allison’s International Centre.
• Demonstrated international outlook and a proven ability to function comfortably in a cross-cultural environment;
• Familiarity with Mount Allison’s study abroad & exchange programs;
• Familiarity with the MASSIE Program;
• Familiarity with international student services and resources including the International Mentorship Program;
• Familiarity with student services offered by Mount Allison;
• Strong proficiency with the suite of Microsoft office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
• Experience with multi-media design and editing tools
• Experience with developing content and promoting events and programs on various social media sources
• Excellent written communication skills
• Good organizational ability (e.g. managing several tasks / projects at once) and strong attention to detail (e.g. accurate data keeping);
• Experience with event-planning;
• Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends;
• Legally-permitted to work in Canada;
