About the Role

The Corporate ESG Manager is expected to provide Steer with support and advice on operational sustainability and social responsibility related opportunities for improvement.

They are responsible for consulting and engaging on an annual sustainability and social responsibility strategy and the development of initiatives to support this.

Of key importance is the ability to influence organisational culture by championing sustainability and social responsibility at Steer, encouraging engagement and continuous improvement.

The post holder will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring sustainability policies, advising or appropriate targets, running an annual program of activities, initiatives and improvements that align with the Company Strategy and objectives.

The postholder will work as part of the Business Delivery Group but will be expected to collaborate and engage with Heads of Department, members of the Sustainability Working Group, Social Value Working Group, Staff Forum and other Employee Resource Groups to identify opportunities for improvement, share ideas, raise awareness and deliver a cohesive program of improvements, activities and initiatives.

Program initiatives are typically centred around Planet, Places, People.

Planet : Energy management, responsible procurement, business and commuter travel, supplier engagement and reporting, recycling and waste.

Places : Social value related activities e.g. supporting our local communities, charities, and volunteering.

People : Wellbeing initiatives and activities.

The postholder is expected to contribute to the overall success of the company in accordance with its aims, objectives, vision, and values.

Duties and responsibilities :

  • The ESG Manager is responsible for the ongoing development and oversight of Steer’s operational sustainability and social value program, initiatives, and goals.
  • In collaboration with company employee resource groups and departments, this role will facilitate initiatives for continuous improvement, communication, engagement, and promotion of environmental and social stewardship in day-to-day operations.
  • This role works across multiple disciplines to develop, implement, and evaluate environmental stewardship initiatives, and work with stakeholders to implement improvements.
  • This position will be a lead member of the Steer Sustainability Working Group.
  • In this role, this position will assist in setting goals for reduction impacts in several broad areas : energy, waste, travel, procurement, information, and engagement.
  • It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behaviour consistent with Steer mission and principles.
  • This position reports to the Group Head of Facilities, Safety and Environment.

Key responsibilities to include :

  • Researching and preparing recommendations for new and improved sustainability and social value practices and programs
  • Planning and developing program objectives and content
  • Serve as a key resource for sustainability and social value programs
  • Establish goal setting for reducing environmental impact in areas of focus
  • Partner with department leaders to drive forward continuous improvement
  • Develop reports for progress of initiatives in areas of focus
  • Support annual Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas reporting
  • Participating in the delivery of ISO 14001
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation

The salary range for Vancouver office applicants are $95,000 to $125,000 CADD.

Do be advised that this is an estimated benchmark salary of good faith for the Province of British Colombia. All compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, internal equity and geographic location are taken into account.

In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. Please review the benefits section for more information on total reward.

Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably with emphasis in Sustainability / Environmental Managem
  • Education may be substituted by three to five years of experience of which three years are specific to developing, implementing, and monitoring sustainability programs
  • 3-5 years’ experience in sustainability management, or related field; with at minimum of three (3) years in a lead role, preferably in professional services industry
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirement related to environmental management
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize and implement administrative and operational programs and procedures
  • Must have Leadership, Administrative, Planning, Organizing, Prioritizing, Interpersonal / Relations skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Achievement orientated and self-motivated
  • Ability to be proactive, take initiative and achieve results
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

For our Canadian applicants, we offer a competitive package of benefits including private medical, dental, and vision insurance, a group Share Incentive Plan, a 3% RRSP contribution and a discretionary yearly bonus based on annual compensation (dependent upon individual and company performance).
