Culinary Program Manager
Status : Perm Full-Time
Location : Social Crust Café / Culinary Program
Salary Range : $65,000 to $80,000
Hours : Monday Friday 8am-4pm
Job Summary : The Culinary Skills Training Program at Coast Mental Health supports young adults recovering from mental illness who are facing barriers to employment.
Social Crust Café, a Social Enterprise of Coast Mental Health is a supportive business that provides an opportunity for training.
The café is open to the public Monday - Friday 8am-2 : 30pm and offers catering as well. Our collective mission is to empower young adults to gain employment.
The Culinary Café Manager oversees the Culinary Training Program and Café business, reporting to the Senior Manager and Director of Employment and Community Services.
Primary Role :
- Manage the Culinary Training Program and Café operations, overseeing student employment selections. Drive growth in catering and café businesses through strategic marketing, and identifying opportunities for business expansion.
- Supervise and provide leadership for Culinary Program staff and Café staff, ensuring performance management, compliance, and a positive work environment.
- Familiarity with Square POS system, Ritual, and MarginEdge software.
- Identify and secure catering contracts, manage sales, oversee invoicing, and schedule production meetings with café staff.
Provide support to the cafe team as needed to ensure successful execution of catering orders
- Collaborate with Coast Communication and Culinary Program staff to oversee all marketing and promotions the Culinary Program.
- Prepare, manage, and oversee budgets, funding, and business proposals for both the culinary program and business operations
Key Responsibilities :
- Ensure operations align with Coast's Mission, Vision, Values, Policies, and Procedures.
- Oversee student selection and help Culinary Program staff make the final selection.
- Lead and manage Culinary Program Support Staff and Café core staff, including performance reviews and compliance with agreements.
- Manage program and business budgets, oversee reporting, and achieve revenue targets.
- setting work schedules, training, and conducting performance reviews for Café Staff.
- Overseeing and preparing monthly accounting documents for Coasts internal accounting team
- Identity and execute revenue producing avenues for the café business and catering.
- Identify and execute opportunities for special events to host in the café or collaborate with external partners.
- Measure outcomes such as program graduates, industry partnerships, employment opportunities, and business growth.
- Provide support to both the culinary and café teams as necessary. Which may include delivering catering orders.
Job Qualifications :
- Experience working with people with mental illness an asset
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
- Passion for business development and team leadership.
- Proficient in creating and managing budgets.
- Physical ability to perform job duties and operate kitchen equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Relevant degree or diploma, Professional Cooking certificate, and culinary leadership experience required. Executive Chef or Executive Sous Chef.
- Valid class 4 driving license required.
- First Aid + CPR, WHMIS, FoodSafe, Criminal Record Clearance, and proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.
