Fixed Asset Analyst
Job Duties / Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)
Job Duties Job Duties Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset system for all Saskatchewan Polytechnic locations using the computerized financial accounting system.
Major responsibilities include :
- Process, maintain, and balance the organization’s capital assets.
- Perform complex monthly and annual capital and lease account reconciliations and procedures.
- Initiate and prepare monthly and annual journal entries, requiring an understanding of proper accrual accounting and asset capitalization procedures.
- Ensure compliance with SaskPolytech approved policies and procedures, such as our Asset Capitalization and Amortization policy, Procurement policy, etc.
- Communicate with Saskatchewan Polytechnic staff and suppliers to determine appropriate capitalization of purchases, obtain missing authorizations, or to resolve purchase order discrepancies.
- Prepare payment and enter data for capital invoices, specific operating invoices, staff expense claims, professional development claims, and other expenditures.
- Assess proper GST and PST.
- Maintain vendor accounts in good standing.
- Prepare the annual amortization budget for the organization.
- Organize and oversee the annual capital inventory count.
- Perform year-end procedures and assist in preparation of financial statement sections related to capital accounts.
- Assist with analysis and reporting for various / ad hoc operating and capital related projects.
- Support Accounts Payable Clerk and Accounts Payable Analyst functions as required.
- Provide coverage for the Accounts Payable Analyst in their absence.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) 1.
Two-year Accountancy diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or successful completion of equivalent courses eligible for credit towards a professional accounting designation or an equivalent combination of recent / relevant education, training and experience, and 3 years recent (within the last 5 years) relevant experience applying accounting and financial theory, practice and procedures and with using computerized accounting systems and other related software, i.
e. word processing, spreadsheets, database applications.
2. Significant knowledge of GAAP and other accounting knowledge, i.e. difference between expenses and capital assets, accrual accounting, internal controls, etc.
3. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
4. Effective interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
5. Advanced computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Email.
6. Demonstrated strong analytical (error detection) and problem solving skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, compile and summarize data.
8. Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
9. Ability to accurately reference acts, regulations, policies and guidelines and use sound judgment when responding to requests and when dealing with confidential information.
