Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to fill the role of Program Coordinator! If you are driven by the desire to empower Indigenous learners and create a culturally enriching environment on campus, we want you on our team!

As the Program Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in planning, developing, marketing, delivering, and evaluating services, events, and programming at the University of Regina. Your understanding of the unique needs of Indigenous learners will contribute to building a culturally relevant community that supports their academic journey.

What You’ll Do :

Create a Community : Design, develop, and deliver leadership focused and culturally responsive programming to support Indigenous students’ development and retention. Ensure these students have a welcoming community within the University of Regina.

Build Relationships : Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external partners with the intent to maintain, improve, and expand on service delivery that improves student success rates, and addresses critical social, political, and economic issues that affect Indigenous students.

Event Coordinator : Oversee and deliver several events and programs (small and large scale) that promote Indigenous knowledges, cultures, and leadership development skills for students and the University community.

Academic and Personal Support : Equip students with essential academic skills and personal growth through tailored workshops and one-on-one interactions. You will empower students to excel, inside and outside the classroom.

Leadership Development Facilitator : Take the lead role in the development, maintenance, and assessment of the Neekaneewak Leadership Initiative (NLI). The NLI is designed to build leadership traits within four categories of skills development : academic, cultural, community, and professional.

Promotions Lead : Develop, design, and deliver promotional materials and communications strategies for activities within the ta-tawaw Student Centre. This includes developing content for print and website, writing reports for potential donors, creating email campaigns, and facilitating event promotion and registration.

In this multifaceted role, you’ll be a catalyst for positive change, creating an environment where Indigenous students not only succeed academically but also flourish as active and engaged members of our university community! Position Requirements What You’ll Bring to the Position :

  • Four year Bachelor degree (preferably in a human service field);
  • Three years of related experience working with Indigenous students and communities;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous peoples and the socio-economic factors affecting their communities, and an understanding of how those factors impact Indigenous student success. A strong understanding of cultural protocols in working with First Nations and Métis communities is crucial.

  • Knowledge about how culture and identity recognition can affect student retention within the University environment.
  • Understanding of the governance structures of various Indigenous organizations within the territories of the University.
  • Good understanding of how the University functions and the role its various units play within student activities on campus.
  • Ability to make decisions based on best outcomes for student retention and engagement.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment, within both large and small groups.
  • Experience working within hard deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and dealing with sensitive information.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with students in stressful situations.
  • Possess an outgoing and engaging personality.
  • A calm demeanor is an asset.
