Location : Calgary

Salary range : 140k-160k

Position type : Full-time & permanent

Schedule : Flexible, with expected availability during regular office hours unless calendar blocked off

Your Mission

Reducing GHG emissions from the oil and natural gas industry is one of the single greatest short-term impacts that we can make towards decarbonizing our economy.

Incentivizing the production, transportation, and end use of low-carbon energy is critical. Highwood is looking to expand its team and is currently seeking to fill the role of Director of Software.

Highwood is building our Emission Intelligence Platform (EIP), which allows customers to understand their emissions in new and valuable ways.

We are progressing towards MVP and will be establishing EIP as a SaaS product this year.

As Director of Software, you will be leading our small software team. Additionally, you will be working closely with the Product Team, R+D, and Sr Leadership.

You will be the face of the Software Team and ultimately accountable for the success of the Software Team.

We are looking for someone with a mix of strong technical skills along with experience as a leader in software. Many of our clients are large energy companies, so enterprise experience is considered a major asset.

A successful candidate will run a highly effective software team and help Highwood Emissions be a world class Software company.

You will report to the Chief Innovation Officer.

What is expected :

  • Manage and build Software Team. Currently there are 3 highly effective members.
  • Technical lead for the Software Team. Working closely with the team, responsible for the design, implementation, and support of the system.
  • Participate in Senior Leadership meetings as the face of the Software Team.
  • Work closely with the Product team and R+D to make the best decisions on what and how to build the product.
  • Represent Highwood, as the Technical Expert, to customers, shareholders, and other external stakeholders.

About You

Here are some of the things we’re looking for. Note that we don’t expect you to have all of these qualifications, experiences, and / or skills.

We often choose to train someone with the right attitude over hiring the wrong person with the right skills.

  • Experience in software leadership.
  • 5+ years experience in enterprise software.
  • 5+ years experience working with SaaS.
  • 5+ years experience web development experience.
  • Excited to be a manager / leader.
  • Excited to contribute technically.
  • Proficiency in 1 programming language (Typescript, JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, etc). Our stack is all written in Typescript.
  • Experience with SQL. We use PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with a product team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
