Job Description

The Chief Engineer is a hands-on leader who is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance of the hotel mechanical systems, with a focus to improve efficiency and service levels through the guidance and leadership of the Engineering Department.

What you will be doing :

  • Provides effective supervision and support, leadership and direction to the maintenance team to maximize their potential.
  • Ensures highest levels of working order of systems and proper repairs, through regular spot checks, implemented processes and training.
  • Active involvement in current mechanical systems and ensuring their working order, makes recommendations to improve efficiencies and energy conservation.
  • Ensures delivery of exceptional service through focus on training, problem resolution, and performance management and colleague engagement.
  • Supports the Director of Engineering in the preparation of any budgetary needs for the department.
  • Ensure the maintenance of comfortable climate control in the building.
  • Maintains effective records of work / maintenance completed on equipments.
  • Consistently monitors and educates all contractors on site related to hotel policies, safety standards and guest services.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance on departmental health and safety programs, emergency response team procedures, all regulations pertaining to building code, health, safety, fire, and life safety requirements.
  • Prepares and follows upon inspections such as Fire Life Safety, Loss prevention etc and enforces recommendations from Risk Management inspections
  • Fosters an environment of open communication, teamwork and recognition through daily dialogue and monthly communication meetings with agendas, minutes, and follow up.
  • Creates and fosters a positive work environment throughout the hotel.
  • Drives to deliver Fairmont brand standards throughout the operation.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Third or Fourth Class Power Engineering Ticket with Provincial Certification required.
  • Supervisory experience in a service related environment required.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement with current knowledge of cutting edge technologies.
  • Sound technical judgment with capacity for innovation.
  • Business thinker with effective computer skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Focus on results with talent to energize the team.
  • Ability to think long term and look at the bigger picture
