Position Summary

Title : Harm Reduction and Substance Use Outreach Nurse

Contract : 1 year term

Hours : Casual

Location :

Bargaining Unit : Professional Institute for Public Service of Canada (PIPSC)

About the role

As the Harm Reduction and Substance Use Outreach Nurse, you will deliver professional nursing support and educational activities to communities.

You will provide nursing programs in relation to mental health and substance use. And you will provide direct support to improve nursing practice standards in communities with a focus on the activity of RN / RPN prescribing of opiate agonist treatment and addressing the toxic drug crisis.

Qualifications

About you

To be successful in this role you will have / be :

  • Bachelor’s degree in registered nursing or bachelor’s degree or diploma in psychiatric nursing, from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Additional training and education related to substance use, harm reduction, mental health and trauma informed practice
  • Completion of BCCSU RN / RPN Prescribing Education Program is an asset
  • Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • An understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols
  • Knowledge of health status of populations, inequities in health, the determinants of health and illness, principals of primary care, strategies for health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, curative, urgent and emergent care, rehabilitation, harm reduction and supportive care.
  • You may have experience in;
  • Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse (RN) or registered psychiatric nurse (RPN) providing clinical practice support in primary care, community and / or public health nursing or acute care, ambulatory care and / or outpatient centres
  • Two (2) years of experience caring for clients with harm reduction and substance use concerns
