Via Ferrata Guide

You will providea safe, unique and entertaining experience for guests to discover and exploreTerminator Peak. You are well versed in the history of KHMR, Golden, and thePurcell mountains, with a passion for the outdoors.

You will act as a guide onthe Via Ferrata and a first responder to emergency situations anywhere on themountain. You may also be requested to participate in bike trail daily checksand trail building and maintenance work.

You will :

  • Monitor andreport on route and weather conditions and advise on route closures.
  • Advise on repairsand assist with installations.
  • Ensure the safetyof guests by giving effective instruction through the Via Ferrata.
  • Act as firstresponder in emergency or health or safety situations and dispatch resources.
  • Liaise inemergency situations, communicating with key contacts until situation isresolved.
  • Assess conditionof injured parties; administer first aid treatment and transition to emergencypersonnel if required.
  • Participate orlead in rope or helicopter evacuation of injured / sick guests
  • Participate orlead in gondola and lift evacuation.
  • Assist the BikePark as required with risk management and incident response.

You :

  • Have a currentcertification in an 80-hour First Aid program, preferably NUOFA3andPEAK advanced protocols.
  • Have SPRAT level1 or higher certification an asset.
  • Have the abilityto communicate effectively and multi-task under stress or time pressure.
  • Are a high schoolgraduate; completion of post-secondary education - an asset.
  • Have previousexperience in a safety, patrol, ropes rescue, or related outdoors role.
  • Are comfortableaccessing vertical rock environments.
  • Are familiar withKicking Horse Mountain Resort summer operations.
  • Have previousorganized rescue training - an asset
  • Have knowledge ofthe Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Have Class Dfixed line rescue experience - an asset.
  • Have previousguiding experience - an asset.
  • Have previoustrail building experience an asset.
  • Are physicallyable to ride your bike down some of the trails at KHMR.

WorkingConditions

  • Extended periodsof exposure to extreme weather conditions on resort (cold, wind, snow, sun, altitude).
  • Must be calm inhigh pressure situations.
  • Must havephysical strength and stamina to negotiate varied and difficult terrain whileclimbing / scrambling.
  • Must havephysical strength and stamina to engage in search and rescue activities,including navigating on foot through rough terrain and extreme conditions withrescue gear.
  • Flexible shifts,including weekends, of up to ten hours required.
