We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-kwuh-tlum) meaning Red Fish Up the River .

The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), and other Coast Salish Peoples.

One of BC’s Top Employers, the City of Coquitlam offers meaningful career opportunities to make a difference within the local community.

As the sixth largest city in BC, we are home to more than 150,000 residents. Our diverse municipality is a great place to work as it continues to grow through innovative urban design, inspiring arts, culture and recreation programs, and state-of-the-art transportation systems.

Our brand is built on managing our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner, while supporting a vibrant, growing regional urban centre.

We envision a bright future in Coquitlam that we hope includes you!

The City of Coquitlam has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Advisor to join our team in a temporary full time capacity for approximately 15 months in anticipation of a maternity leave.

You will be the newest teammate to a team of both Human Resources Advisors and Human Resources Assistants all of which report to the Employment and HR Advisory Services Manager.

In this role you can look forward to being a key support for departmental managers and staff across the City, acting as a business partner in matters relating to recruitments, collective agreement interpretation, attendance, classifications, employee relations and a variety of other facets of the employee life cycle.

Our environment is fast paced and success in this role requires being well-versed in providing advice to clients in a generalist capacity on all human resources matters.

The successful candidate will have experience working in a unionized environment and will bring forward excellent interpersonal skills, have the ability to solve problems and also possess the ability to think critically.

Teamwork is at the heart of our day to day work, and we are looking for a collaborative human resources professional with a passion for providing service excellence to be the newest member of our team.

We are always striving for continuous improvements and efficient processes and welcome your ideas to our team!

This is a rare opportunity to join a busy, high volume Human Resources division with lots on the go. In addition to the above skills and qualifications, the successful candidate will bring three to five years related work experience at the Coordinator or Advisor level and will hold an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce or Human Resource Management.

A CPHR designation, experience in labour relations and / or experience working within the municipal sector will be considered an asset.
