The Senior Accounting Specialist performs journal entries and balance sheet accounts analysis within the accounting operation function at Aviva Canada.

Primary responsibilities in this role involve commission, intercompany and various other journal entries. This role is also responsible for GL account reconciliations and handling related audit queries.

What you'll do :

  • Analyze intercompany transactions and balances, ensuring elimination of intercompany accounts during consolidation.
  • Support the intercompany recharge process and book intercompany recharges.
  • Prepare journal entries for commission accruals, reversals, payments, and true ups.
  • Prepare monthly Balance Sheet accounts review package for Aviva Canada Inc., with detailed explanation, backed by proper supporting document, of material variances in key accounts.
  • Run month-end control reports using PBCS (SmartView based tool).
  • Assist on Corporate accounting month-end activities like IBNR journals and late adjustments.
  • Assist the Manager, Corporate Accounting in all tasks related to month end close and balance reconciliations thereafter.

What you'll bring :

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA or CMA) or equivalent education.
  • 4-5 years relevant experience in accounting and or reporting. Working experience with any ERP general ledger system.
  • Knowledge of the P&C insurance industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SmartView reporting tool and any reconciliation tool will be an asset.
  • Good understanding of the various aspects of accounting operations and account reconciliations is a requirement.
  • Ability and passion to improve processes while simultaneously delivering under tight timelines.
  • Sound technical accounting skills. Knowledge of IFRS17 accounting standard, related best practices, controls, and accounting principles.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple functions and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively connect with manager and peers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work with sophisticated issues and concepts.
