About the Role Reporting to the Mine Operations Manager, the Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support in the planning, design, and implementation of geotechnical programs for an underground mining operation. This role will ensure the stability and safety of underground excavations while optimizing ground support strategies to enhance operational efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with mine operations, geology, and engineering teams to manage geotechnical risks and contribute to the long-term stability of the mine. This position works 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, fly in & out. Responsibilities Review geotechnical data and provide input into underground mine design and planning. Design, review, and oversee the implementation of Hazard Plans, Permit to Drill & Mine, and Permits to Mine. Provide daily geotechnical advice related to the mine’s current and future operations. Conduct slope stability assessments, 3D modelling, and underground stability reviews. Assess, audit, and facilitate the evaluation of existing and new underground critical areas to ensure safety and compliance. Manage geotechnical risks in accordance with relevant Mining Acts, Regulations, and company policies. Perform stability analysis for underground excavations using industry-accepted practices and, where required, for open pit slopes. Facilitate internal and external audits and inspections for the technical services department. Optimize ground support policies for underground development to manage ground conditions effectively and cost-efficiently. Improve selective mining processes by reducing stope overbreak and dilution. Support mine operations in implementing ground control measures and best practices. Conduct backfill design assessments and ensure backfill practices align with geotechnical requirements. Provide training and mentorship to mining personnel on geotechnical best practices. Maintain geotechnical monitoring systems, including instrumentation and data analysis. Prepare technical reports and documentation related to geotechnical assessments and ground control strategies. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering within an underground mining environment. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Strong knowledge of underground geotechnical engineering principles, ground support design, and mine stability assessment. Experience with geotechnical modeling software. Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation, monitoring techniques, and data analysis. Preferred Skills Strong understanding of mining regulations and health and safety standards in British Columbia. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced mining environment. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Effective communication and report-writing skills. Strong safety-oriented mindset and commitment to mine site safety. Ability to work in a remote location and adapt to site-based work schedules.
