Reporting directly to Global CEO / President, the Chief Risk Officer will oversee and manage all aspects of risk within the organization to ensure its financial stability and compliance with regulations and the Group level. The CRO will play a critical role in safeguarding the financial health and reputation of Relm by proactively identifying, assessing, and managing risk across the organization, working together with the rest of Relm’s leadership team to help the Company achieve its Goals, Objectives, and Key Results, which are focused on Diversification, Capital Strength, Global Expansion, Innovation, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Customer Obsession.
The CRO will be directly involved with the global leadership team’s group strategy and will be involved in regional and global (1) regulatory initiatives (2) underwriting (3) sales and marketing (4) operations and (5) corporate development, including capital raising, M&A and venture investments.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Risk Assessment and Management : Identify, assess, and prioritize risks faced by the company, including insurance underwriting risks, investment risks, operational risks, and regulatory risks. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure the company complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing the insurance industry. Stay updated on regulatory changes and communicate them to relevant stakeholders within the company.
- Risk Governance : Establish and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and frameworks. Oversee the implementation of risk management processes across the organization.
- Risk Monitoring and Reporting : Monitor key risk indicators and performance metrics to track the company's risk profile. Prepare regular reports for senior management, the board of directors, and regulatory authorities on the company's risk exposure and mitigation efforts.
- Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis : Conduct stress tests and scenario analyses to assess the company's resilience to adverse events and economic conditions. Use the results to inform strategic decision-making and capital planning.
- Insurance Product Development : Provide input and guidance on the development of new insurance products and services, ensuring they align with the company's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
- Reinsurance Strategy : Collaborate with the SVP of Reinsurance to develop reinsurance strategies to transfer and diversify risks, optimize capital utilization, and enhance the company's overall risk profile.
- Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) : Lead the company's ERM efforts, integrating risk management practices into all aspects of the business operations and decision-making processes.
- Risk Culture and Awareness : Promote a strong risk culture within the organization by fostering awareness of risk management principles and encouraging open communication about risk issues at all levels of the company.
- Crisis Management : Develop contingency plans and protocols to respond effectively to crises or unexpected events that may pose significant risks to the company's operations or financial stability.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management : Collaborate with other departments, including underwriting, finance, compliance, and legal, to address cross-functional risk management challenges. Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as regulators, rating agencies, and reinsurers.
- Professional Development : Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging risks, and technological advancements in risk management. Invest in the professional development of yourself and your team to enhance the company's risk management capabilities.
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
- Holder of a recognized actuarial accreditation or insurance risk management qualification
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in a leadership position in an insurance and / or reinsurance company with at 5+ years dedicated to enterprise risk management.
- Ability to collaborate with senior managers, recognizing the dynamic operational tempo and time constraints within the company.
- Highly developed communication skills, a team player, change agent, strategic and creative thinker.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to drive performance across all areas within the organization.
- Experience working with, regulators and rating agencies.
