An exciting opportunity to lead a highly respected organization in the field of pediatric rehabilitation in Waterloo Region and the County of Wellington committed to empowering children and youth with special needs to realize their full potential.

Waterloo Region is one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario and the 10th largest in Canada. In addition to a vast array of health and social services organizations, the Waterloo Region is also comprised of a vibrant tech and entrepreneurial community, universities and industry leaders which allows many opportunities to creatively evolve healthcare delivery in partnership with both health and non-health care sector partners.

KidsAbility is a highly respected, complex, ever-changing, not-for-profit organization that provides the full spectrum of rehabilitation services to children from birth to school departure in Waterloo Region and the County of Wellington.

KidsAbility is one of 21 Children’s Treatment Centres ( CTC ) in Ontario located across Ontario that are members of the provincial association Empowered Kids Ontario.

KidsAbility is funded primarily by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, but also receives significant program funding from provincial government intermediaries, municipal governments, and private donors.

KidsAbility is supported by a vibrant, successful, and well-respected Foundation which has a separate Board and Executive Director.

KidsAbility has an annual budget of over $30M, and a staffing complement of more than

325 employees and is supported by many volunteers and active participants from the community. Currently, KidsAbility serves over fifteen thousand children and youth with a wide range of special needs, including developmental delays, communications delays or disabilities and physical disabilities.

The Board is looking for a strategic and visionary CEO who is highly visible and politically astute with a passion for serving children and youth with disabilities and their families.

A passionate, caring, and courageous leader who can inspire and motivate staff through an inclusive and engaging leadership style and will work collaboratively with families, funders, and community partners to ensure the continued success of its programs throughout Waterloo Region and the County of Wellington.

Reporting directly to a strong and dedicated volunteer Board of Directors and working closely with a committed senior leadership team and dedicated staff, the CEO will be a visionary organizational leader and strategic community partner committed to providing high quality, family-centred care.

The Board is looking for a leader who can take them to the next level of not only solid and healthy external partnerships but healthy internal growth and development.

Someone who can focus on quality and service excellence while concurrently ensuring operational effectiveness and financial accountability.

Ideally, the CEO will have seven to ten years of proven experience in a leadership capacity in the community-based non-profit sector and will hold a Master’s level degree in business, public or health administration, health sciences or another relevant field.

As an inspirational leader with excellent interpersonal skills and proficient team building skills, the CEO will promote a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement and demonstrate an understanding of working in a culturally diverse and changing community environment.

An extensive knowledge of working with government-funded programs and a proven track record of developing and securing funding strategies for a major non-profit organization will be essential, as would experience in fundraising and donor relations.

Experience in bringing together communities and service partners to collectively treat and care for children and youth with special needs, and their families, would be an asset.
