Job Summary

The Community Worker collaborates closely with community members, partner organizations, and programs within our service areas. They are responsible for planning and facilitating programs aimed at developing leadership skills and encouraging volunteerism and civic engagement. Strong in-person facilitation skills are essential for this role.

Program Description :

The Brotherhood program supports and empowers male-identifying youth through mentoring, educational, and recreational activities. It hosts weekly youth meetings and mentoring activities for male-identifying students and young men. The role also involves supporting other youth programs as needed. The ideal candidate is male-identifying with experience in youth services, education, recreation, or outreach, and possesses strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork skills, and enthusiasm. Ability to work effectively with diverse youth from different backgrounds is required. Some travel to program sites and evening / weekend shifts may be necessary.

Job Specific Responsibilities :

Community Development and Outreach :

  • Conduct outreach activities to community members, identifying needs and interests aligned with the Centre’s Strategic Plan.
  • Respect and incorporate the diversity of communities and individuals, promoting health and social determinants of health.
  • Establish and maintain linkages with community resources.
  • Provide practical assistance and referrals to clients as appropriate.
  • Create a supportive environment to help community members address barriers.
  • Foster community engagement and capacity-building.
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships in collaboration with supervisors.
  • Promote and inform the community about relevant programs and services.
  • Implement conflict prevention strategies, including de-escalation and crisis response, with supervisor support and training.

Program Development :

  • Assist in developing and implementing programs, events, and services aligned with PQ’s mission and values.
  • Contribute to program proposals, including purpose, timelines, budgets, and activities.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and programs tailored to participant needs.
  • Participate in program evaluation and report findings to supervisors.
  • Provide in-person and virtual programming as directed.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Administrative Duties :

  • Maintain records related to petty cash, participation, crisis interventions, and evaluations in accordance with privacy policies.
  • Ensure security of program space and equipment.
  • Attend meetings and represent the program internally and in the community.
  • Participate in supervision and team collaborations.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of volunteers and students.
  • Support other teams and programs as needed.
  • Provide input on program design, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on community needs.
  • Commit to personal and professional growth.
  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Qualifications :

  • Must be male-identifying (ACB candidate).
  • Degree or diploma in health, social services, youth work, childcare, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience creating safe, inclusive environments, including virtual settings.
  • Training in program planning, group facilitation, and leadership development.
  • Experience with in-person and virtual group facilitation platforms.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages (Somali, Arabic, French) are assets.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are assets.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification required.
