Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinate Health & Safety activities for the company including recommending best practice improvement initiatives.

Foster positive safety culture that integrates safety policies / practices into a daily practice for company personnel.

Evaluate, develop, and maintain company health & safety program that adheres to or exceeds OHS Legislation and any other municipal, or provincial legislation as it applies to the dealership and report infractions per policy.

Participate on behalf of the Employer where required in safety-related activities.

Expertise with computerized HRIS and / or LMS systems is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Safety Tasks

Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and adherence to applicable Occupational Health & Safety Legislation.

Ensure that safety program is current and up to date

Respond to serious incidents to ensure safety of personnel while adhering to OHS & WCB Reporting Requirements

Investigate near miss, incidents, and collision situations to determine the underlying causes. Provide investigation report and recommendations to CEO and Health and Safety Committee.

Facilitate employee and subcontractor orientations

WCB Reporting

Process, record, and report on all WCB claims

Facilitate employee return to work process

Prepare proposals for in-house or outsourced health and safety training

Update and maintain Safety Handbook, Emergency Response Plan, and safe work procedures

Compile and maintain health and safety records

Maintain Certificate of Recognition (COR)

Maintain and update third party contractor management databases (i.e. Canqual, Avetta, Comply Works, etc.)

Develop and implement inspection policies, job procedures, safe work practices, and schedule of routine inspections to identify safety, health, and environmental risks

Plan and conduct annual fire drills and monthly inspection of facilities

Post all safety-related bulletins, posters, rules and regulations

Work with Health and Safety Committee, Lead hands, and Managers to research and prepare toolbox talk schedule and script for all locations

Collaborate with Health & Safety Committee to ensure clear definition of roles, responsibilities, and training requirements for the committee members, employees, managers, and contractors of the organization

Review Health & Safety (H&S) Committee meeting minutes and ensure follow-up.

Participate as the subject matter expert at H&S committee meetings

Build safety awareness though posting on safety progress on SPOC and in the employee newsletter

Ensure that safety information is maintained and readily accessible

Report safety progress to CEO

Support with Human Resources and special projects

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Requires a high school diploma with an Occupational Health & Safety Certificate and 5-10 years of experience in the field.

Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Knowledge of all relevant Government and legal regulations including but not limited to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulations, and Code.

Strong problem solving, critical thinking, coaching, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
