The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Woodland Wellness Centre is inviting applications for the following Permanent Full-Time positions based out of La Ronge, SK :
The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties :
- Assisting the Elder / Cultural Advisors in conducting / preparing for spiritual ceremonies;
- Supports traditional knowledge, experience and skills to the participants of the Woodland Wellness Centre;
- Assisting the treatment staff in the delivery of health care services including but not limited to; promotion and prevention;
- Assisting in the planning and organizing events such as; cultural camps, canoe trips, hunting, fishing, gathering, planting and harvesting community gardens, berry picking expeditions, trips and traditional outings for the participants;
- Maintaining all cultural equipment and supplies;
- Assisting the Elder / Cultural Advisors by; providing transportation, chopping wood, shovelling snow, hunting and gathering;
- food, traditional medicines, wood and rocks;
- Working closely with the Treatment Team by assisting in; providing support, awareness, reinforce teaching, interpreting and advising;
- If able, act as an interpreter between English and Cree speaking clients, health care providers, and accompany clients when necessary to appointments;
- Engage Treatment centre families and community members in basic life skills from a traditional perspective;
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor and / or designate.
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications :
- Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or Equivalent;
- 1-2 years’ relevant experiences in Cultural and Traditional Practices;
- A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered;
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with Woodland Cree Culture and Traditions is a must;
- Maintain exemplary lifestyle, i.e. be free from drugs and alcohol, no swearing, etc.
- Must carry a high degree of Respect for women, children and all genders.
- Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), Hunter’s Safety Certificate and Boating License;
- Valid WHMIS and First Aid / CPR Certification;
- Ability to speak / understand the Cree Language is a strong asset;
- Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling Certificate;
- Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and own a reliable vehicle;
- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Check, and SGI Driver Abstract
