Job Summary

Come work as a Carpenter with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Come Join Vancouver Coastal Health’s Facilities and Property Management team. We are small but efficient team of dedicated staff who support the leased and community owned sites.

Our department works on a supportive and collaborative model where each team member is vital to the success of the department.

This position is with our trades team and is a mobile tech, servicing Vancouver, Richmond, and North Shore. This is an exciting position where every day is different every day and you will be able to make an impact on supporting our sites.

The type of work you will be doing is minor furniture repairs, minor plumbing and electrical work, small moves and be the first point for on site emergencies.

As a Carpenter with VCH you will :

  • Perform skilled carpentry work in accordance with applicable building codes and by-laws in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of building structural elements, fixtures, and furniture using power tools such as table saws, mitre saws, routers, jointers, and sanders and hand tools such as hammers, screw drivers, squares, chisels, hand saws, clamps an planes.
  • May provide / perform general maintenance within applicable codes, regulations and departmental policies as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 10 plus two (2) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a Journeyman Carpenter recognized by the Province of British Columbia.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders, as of October 5, 2023, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most-recent, updated COVID-19 vaccine.

Proof of vaccination status will be required.
