Our client is a well-established General Contractor operating across the GTA, specializing in Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial (ICI) projects, with a strong focus on institutional renovations and additions. Projects typically range from $2M to $30M and are delivered in occupied and operational environments.
They are seeking an experienced Estimator who understands the complexities of renovation work, phased construction, and public-sector procurement.
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for institutional renovation and addition projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, trade knowledge, and experience working with public tenders, prequalification processes, and negotiated work.
The ideal candidate understands the unique challenges of working in active facilities such as schools and healthcare buildings and can proactively identify risk, scope gaps, and constructability concerns.
Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to fully understand project scope
Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates
Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations
Develop bid packages and scope breakdowns for trade pricing
Identify risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities
Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and tender closings
Prepare tender submissions for public and private institutional clients
Support negotiated proposals and budget pricing during pre-construction
Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents during handover
Maintain cost databases and historical pricing records
Participate in post-bid reviews and bid strategy meetings
5+ years of estimating experience in ICI construction
Strong experience with institutional renovations and additions
Knowledge of public procurement processes (school boards, healthcare, municipal)
Proficiency in take-off and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, Procore, or similar)
Strong understanding of trade scopes and construction sequencing
Ability to price projects in occupied/phased environments
Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
Engineering, Construction Management, or related education preferred
Exposure to technically complex institutional renovation work
Projects in active, sensitive environments (schools, hospitals)
