About the role

The HR Manager will be an individual contributor responsible for a broad range of human resources activities for BW Solar in Canada and the United States of America.

This position will report to the CEO based in Ontario and have a dotted report line to BW Group’s Chief Human Resources Officer.

The role supports a growing headcount, currently 25 employees spread across different provinces in Canada and states in the United States of America.

To be successful the person needs a solution focused mindset and must enjoy working in a fast-paced team. Being able to apply high levels of pragmatism and sensible judgement to the role is also key.

The role holder will be a contributing member to a BW Group wide HR Community of Practice, which meets regularly to exchange ideas on people and culture trends and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the BW Solar leadership team to develop and implement a people plan that supports business growth.
  • Accountable for daily HR Operations, such as benefit and insurance administration, payroll process monthly in Canada and bi-monthly in USA , payroll deductions and witholdings and employee mobility.
  • Actively build on the strong BW Solar culture, ensuring company values are embedded into all people practices.
  • Work in partnership with the CEO to ensure the Company has an appropriate organisation design, clarity of role accountabilities, and the right employee capabilities to meet the needs of the business today and in the future.
  • Support the Company in their talent acquisition needs. This includes developing job descriptions and job postings, overseeing candidate testing and shortlisting, interviewing, selection and offer.
  • Accountable for employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Work with the BW Group HR team in Singapore on the annual compensation and performance coaching cycle.
  • Act on the annual people survey results, ensuing action plans are in place to make BW Solar a great place to work.
  • Plan and deliver a range of employee engagement activities that support the culture and employee well-being.
  • Regularly connect with employees and maintain effective employee-employer communication channels.
  • Facilitate cross company team building.
  • Identify and lead the Company’s diversity, inclusion and belonging approach.
  • Maintain the HR system with employment information to ensure employee records are up to date.
  • Support the CEO with the annual budgeting cycle related to headcount, employee salary and insurance.
  • Conduct regular reviews and update HR policies and processes to ensure compliance to statutory requirements.
  • Attend to employee relations matters. This includes performance improvement plans, managed exits, and informal grievances.
  • Be accountable for employment terms and conditions. Ensure employment agreements are drawn up appropriately in accordance with the requirements of both parties, local legislation, and standard company terms.

Skills and experience

  • Degree educated with 10+ years of HR advisory and operations experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • A natural desire to understand the business they partner with.
  • Strong cultural awareness and an appreciation of cultural differences.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of people strategies.
  • Comfortable overseeing the operational elements of an HR function.
  • Ability to quickly build influential stakeholder relationships.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and able to professionally challenge the status quo.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Numerically proficient.
  • Driven and resourceful, with the ability to work independently.
  • Hands-on, adaptable, and able to multi-task across a broad work portfolio.
  • Forward thinking with a mind for innovation and improvement.
  • Experience of labour regulations in Canada and the United States of America.
  • Hands on professional who is willing to work on HR Operations and strategic HR projects.
