Later is searching for a brilliant legal mind to join its small but mighty legal team. Reporting to the VP, Legal, this is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of a scaling in-house legal department.

The ideal candidate will be a business person first and a lawyer second, with a proactive and practical approach to problem solving.

We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also able to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

What you'll be doing :

  • Provide practical legal advice on a wide range of legal issues impacting the company, including commercial contracting, intellectual property, employment, privacy, product development, and marketing
  • Collaborate with sales and customer support teams to review, interpret, draft, revise, and negotiate customer contracts within acceptable risk tolerance and company guidelines
  • Support influencer-facing teams with matters related to influencer content, contracts, and other related matters
  • Review, interpret, draft, revise, and negotiate vendor contracts
  • Support the company on privacy matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Support up-leveling legal education in the organization

Qualifications :

  • JD with 3-5 years of experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts (NDAs, SAAS Agreements, SOWs, services agreements, etc.)
  • Experience in corporate law and other related practice areas
  • In-house counsel experience at a B2B SAAS business is strongly preferred
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in one of the following jurisdictions Ontario and British Columbia
  • Ability to assess and advise on complex contractual issues in a concise and business-minded manner
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced technology environment, actioning efficiently, and managing multiple competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience effectively communicating with all levels of an organization
  • Experience working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders on diverse projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Bonus points for :

Experience in any of the following practice areas : advertising / marketing law, intellectual property law, privacy law

Our approach to compensation :

We take a market-based & data-driven approach to compensation. We leverage data from trusted third-party compensation sources to help us understand the market value of a role based on function, level, geographic location, and scope.

We evaluate compensation bi-annually, including performance and market-related factors.

Our salaries are benchmarked against market Total Cash Compensation for the geographic location of our job posting. Compensation for some roles is structured as On Target Earnings (OTE base + commission / variable) while for others it is structured as Salary only.

To comply with local legislation and ensure transparency, we share salary ranges on all job postings. Skills, experience and other factors help determine the final salary we offer which may vary from the original range posted.

Additionally, all permanent team members are granted stock options and are eligible to participate in various benefits plans as part of their overall compensation package.

Salary Range :

$120,000-$135,000 CAD

Where we work

We hire into our hub cities of Boston, MA; Vancouver, BC; Toronto, ON. We also have team members based remotely for select positions.
