Position Overview

Reporting to the Youth In-House Treatment Program (Compass) Supervisor and working within an integrated multi-disciplinary team, nurses are required to provide services to youth clients engaged in addiction treatment.

This position requires a commitment to a client-centered philosophy and approach to the development, provision and support of Shared Health programs and services.

The Nurse will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and will demonstrate the following

Experience

  • A minimum of one year experience with individual and group counselling.
  • A minimum of one year nursing experience; proven knowledge of current nursing theory and practice.

Education (Degree / Diploma / Certificate)

Graduate of an approved Registered Psychiatric Nursing program or approved Registered Nursing program required.

Certification / Licensure / Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the applicable policy.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of : College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses / Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Psychiatric / Registered Nurses.

College of Registered Psychiatric / Registered Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Registered Psychiatric / Registered Nurses.

Scope of practice as documented in the Health Professions Act of Manitoba. Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area. Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.

Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team. Principles of delegation.

  • Strong interpersonal skills contributing to a positive multidisciplinary team environment are essential.
  • Knowledge of the addictions field and experience in mental health is considered an asset.
  • An understanding of, and sensitivity to, working with culturally diverse populations is essential.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills in English is required.
  • French and Indigenous language skills are considered an asset.
