Job Description :
To provide Langara students with financial support or work experience through on-campus employment opportunities. The Student Work Assistance Program (SWAP) requires that students demonstrate financial need and meet course load criteria per the SWAP Terms of Reference.
Student Aides do not need to demonstrate financial need nor meet minimum course work. The scope of work varies according to the hiring department and is typified of basic or routine tasks performed.
Student employees should not replace the work of those in other unionized positions.
Duties & Responsibilities :
1. Under the direct supervision of a superior, the following are examples of work typically performed :
- Basic, routine clerical tasks
- Assisting with special events or student events
- Assisting with basic research
- Performing basic housekeeping tasks in classrooms or labs
- Providing daycare assistance in the Langara Child Development Centre
- Distribution of classroom materials
- Basic tasks in the library
Qualifications Required :
Education
SWAP :
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or international student with study permit and valid SIN, or refugee with proof of status;
- Registered in a minimum of 9 credits for the duration of SWAP employment (6 credits for students with registered disability through StudentAide BC or receiving accommodations through Langara Disability Services) or registered as a full-time continuing studies student;
- Has a CGPA of 2.00 or higher.
Student Aide :
Student must be currently enrolled in one or more Regular or Continuing Studies course.
Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge and abilities appropriate to the assigned tasks.
- Ability to perform basic clerical functions as required and, as appropriate, to operate standard office appliances and equipment.
