Electrical Engineering Technologist
Red Deer, Alberta
Job Description and Responsibilities
The primary function of the Electrical Technologist will be to design, install, maintain, program, configure and troubleshoot electrical machinery, controls, industrial automation and data acquisition systems.
The Electrical Technologist responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
- Provide a morning report from electricians to electrical supervisor
- Receives and / or prepares wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repairs, installation and inspection work to be done.
- Analyzes all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment to determine material or replacement needs and to select a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repair problems.
- Plans details or working procedures to affect the most logical approach to the job.
- Considers all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
- Determines necessary tools and materials.
- Plans and performs work requiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principle of operation and application of equipment.
- Locates source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation.
- Dismantles, inspects, repairs, adjusts or replaces faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breaker, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc..
- Re-assembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation.
- Replaces coils, resistors, relays and rheostats, etc.
- Adjusts contactors, relays, bus rigging, etc.
- Programs / Configures automation controllers such as PLCs, robotic controllers, variable frequency drives, DC drives, etc.
- Installs / configures communication networks such as Data Highway, remote I / O, Ethernet, ControlNet, etc.
- Research new innovative options for equipment automation, and preventative maintenance.
Qualifications :
- Electrical engineering technologist diploma.
- Red Seal Journey Electrician preferred.
- 1-5 years working in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Experience with electrical controls, transmitters, valves, drives, temperature, measuring devices and programmable logic controllers and automation software
- Must be willing to work shift work (days and nights)
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good problem solving and analytical skills.
Compensation : $47.75 / hr
