Clinical Educator – Qikiqtani Hospital, Nunavut, Canada (Onsite Clinic)

Salary

$60/hr plus $22/hr non-taxed per diem.

Overview

The Clinical Educator, reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, will work as a clinician, educator, and researcher to support Qikiqtani Hospital (QGH) in Iqaluit, Nunavut, through Bayshore Northern Staffing Division. The incumbent will develop and deliver quality education and services that comply with internal and external professional practice standards. The role entails outlining, developing, and implementing all aspects of clinical activities and service delivery, and assisting in implementing clinical education objectives set by the QGH Director of Clinical Program and the Government of Nunavut Health Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The incumbent maintains a high level of quality assurance and cultivates positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders in daily clinical education activities and operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as a resource and assists the clinical nurse education team at Qikiqtani Hospital and supports the Government of Nunavut nursing resource team.
  • Assigns and recruits interim education leads for specific high‑priority education areas (obstetrics, central monitoring program).
  • Standardizes and operationalizes general onboarding to the program and area‑specific needs beyond checklists.
  • Provides program‑specific onboarding for the Emergency Department and inpatient unit.
  • Establishes external partnerships for obstetrics, critical care, pediatrics, and mental health.
  • Improves overall clinical staff knowledge, skills, and abilities by building staff competence and confidence levels, promoting client/patient and staff safety and better outcomes in staffing and retention rates.
  • Completes work on an in‑territory rotation minimum 4–6 weeks in Nunavut; continuation of work may be required outside the territory as decided by QGH leadership and the GN CNO.

Candidates Must Have

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or a Master’s in a health‑related field is preferred; a Master’s in progress may be considered if accompanied by the required skills and experience.
  • Minimum five to seven years of professional/healthcare experience, including a minimum of three to five years working as a Community Health Nurse.
  • Current registration with a Canadian provincial/territorial nursing regulatory body (e.g., College of Nurses of Ontario, College of Nurses Association of Northwest Territories & Nunavut, College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta).
  • Experience in the development of community‑based care and client teaching programs; knowledge of theoretical frameworks and research application.
  • Exceptional clinical skills, ability to work collaboratively, assume leadership responsibilities, and communicate effectively; demonstrates basic clinical analysis and informatics competencies, including device, application, and information communication technology basic skills.
  • Ability to travel to remote and northern communities throughout Canada; speaking French is an asset but not required.
