This role is an opportunity for you to join Canada’s Global Law Firm, a Firm that offers opportunities to build your career while growing your skills and deepening your expertise.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Senior Manager, Profile & Client Development is a key member of the national business development leadership team, responsible for advancing the firm’s visibility, client engagement, and growth strategies across assigned practice and sector groups.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on initiative execution. Working closely with practice and sector leaders, Office Managing Partners, and cross‑functional teams, including Communications, Proposals, Digital, and Business Intelligence, the Senior Manager drives high‑impact initiatives that strengthen Dentons’ market position and deliver measurable business growth.

With a passion for marketing and client development, the Senior Manager brings a proven track record in developing and executing programs that raise profile, deepen client relationships, and generate new business. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and skilled collaborator, comfortable navigating a matrixed environment and the relationship‑driven nature of professional services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning & Market Positioning

  • Lead the development and execution of business development and profile‑raising strategies for select national practice and sector groups, ensuring alignment with firmwide priorities.
  • Partner with practice and office leadership to translate business goals into actionable strategies that drive growth, deepen client relationships, and enhance visibility.
  • Monitor market and industry trends, identifying innovative opportunities to differentiate Dentons through strategic business development campaigns.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of annual strategic plans and budgets.
  • Establish and promote best practices in business development, collaborating across practice groups and functional teams to ensure alignment and efficiency.
  • Act as a connector between leadership, partners, and the broader Client Development team to ensure communication, accountability, and alignment around growth initiatives.

Client Development & Relationship Expansion

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders - including partners, practice group leaders, and office leadership – to identify client needs and growth opportunities.
  • Advise and lead strategic regional bids and RFPs, including resource planning, project management, and post‑submission debriefs.
  • Support profile‑building initiatives for assigned groups through award nominations, speaking engagements, media opportunities, and social media visibility.
  • Collaborate with the Business Intelligence team to develop reporting and analytics that inform BD strategies and demonstrate measurable outcomes.
  • Champion the use of CRM and digital tools to strengthen data‑driven business development practices across the firm.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five business development professionals supporting a portfolio that includes Litigation, Energy, Real Estate, Employment, and Privacy (portfolio subject to change), as well as the Calgary and Edmonton offices.
  • Oversee team deliverables, ensuring the highest standard of quality, strategic impact, and alignment with business goals.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and professional development to build team capability and engagement.
  • Foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the Profile & Client Development team and across the firm.

Initiative & Campaign Execution

  • Manage and deliver high‑impact client development campaigns, events, and initiatives from concept to execution, ensuring clear timelines, stakeholder accountability, and measurable ROI.
  • Oversee the development of materials and programs that promote best practices in client development, including internal training and toolkits.
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction for the preparation and submission of legal directory and award nominations, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with firm positioning.
  • Create compelling presentations and reports to communicate results, insights, and strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Act as a trusted advisor to partners and firm leaders, providing strategic input and actionable recommendations on business development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Communications, Proposals, Digital, Events, and Business Intelligence, to deliver integrated, high‑impact strategies.
  • Support national and regional initiatives that align with firmwide growth objectives and promote cross‑selling opportunities across practices and sectors.

Role of the Senior Manager

In addition to leading assigned portfolios, Senior Managers in the Profile & Client Development team are expected to:

  • Champion collaboration and best practice sharing – Share successful approaches, templates, and learnings across the national team to promote consistency and excellence.
  • Drive strategic thinking – Evaluate and refine BD approaches to enhance efficiency, impact, and alignment with firm priorities.
  • Mentor and develop talent – Provide guidance, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth to team members.
  • Demonstrate ownership and initiative – Operate with autonomy and accountability, anticipating needs, identifying risks, and driving initiatives forward.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post‑secondary degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline (JDs encouraged to apply).
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in marketing or business development, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
  • Proven success in leading and executing strategic BD initiatives that drive measurable growth.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience, with a focus on coaching and development.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Advanced organizational and project management abilities; able to manage multiple complex initiatives in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proactive, creative, and solutions‑oriented with strong analytical and business acumen.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced PowerPoint skills required) and familiarity with CRM systems.
  • Professional, diplomatic, and ethical, with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Commitment to privacy and the highest standards of integrity.
