Position Overview

The Recruiter / Human Resources (HR) Generalist is responsible for providing confidential, administrative support for a variety of HR related activities such as : recruiting, accurate maintenance of employee databases and filing systems, administering group benefits plans, interpreting legislation for development and maintenance of internal policies, providing relief services for payroll, and providing mentorship and support for performance management, employee development and recruitment and retention strategies.

The Recruiter / HR Generalist supports Executive initiatives and works collaboratively at all levels within the organization, promoting best practices and equal opportunity, and as a key member of the team, the incumbent is expected to consistently demonstrate and encourage in others the organization’s core corporate values.

Some Key Responsibilities :

  • Partner with executive management and front-line managers in establishing and maintaining an organizational structure and appropriate staffing, through employee development, recruitment, and retention strategies, to accomplish the organization's goals and objectives effectively, ensuring SpeedLine is seen as the Employer of Choice.
  • Conduct screening interviews for all departments / positions, schedule second round interviews as required, and complete reference and background checks for potential hires.
  • Partner in the creation and administration of, and provide guidance and support to, the management team for the following :
  • Performance management program, which would include performance success plans, progressive discipline, and other documentation, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Employee engagement strategy and company processes to support the corporate business plan and to support staff efficiently and effectively, including but not limited to, the orientation and onboarding process and practices.
  • Research company compliance with government legislation for both Canada and the US; participate in the communication of updates of same.
  • Return to work program and related policies.
  • Compensation equity for current and potential positions.
  • Job profiles and job descriptions.
  • Act as a resource and escalation point, to employees at all levels, in the interpretation of employment policies, legislation, and human rights, when managers are unavailable or as needed;

facilitate or attend conflict or investigation meetings; ensure the Employee Handbook is kept up to date.

Complete administrative functions of the position, such as : reviewing employment documents; preparing for new hires; employee orientation and termination paperwork and tasks;

conducting and reporting on employee exit and feedback surveys, employee formal recognition programs, WorkSafeBC and WA L&I programs; filing.

  • Act as program administrator and point of contact for all benefits related tasks, including enrolling, updating and removing employees from the plan and answering inquiries as needed.
  • Design and implement overall recruiting strategies, to include the creation of related materials and ads; relationship building with Colleges, Universities and other recruiting resources;

and providing reports and analysis on same.

Provide administrative support for various business functions such as, but not limited to, backup to the Operations team for Accounts Payable and Petty Cash reconciliation, ordering office supplies and customer filing.

Skills We Require :

  • Minimum 3-years’ experience in a hands-on Human Resources Generalist and Recruiter role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of general HR & Recruiting best practices and procedures.
  • Minimum 1-year post-secondary education in Human Resources.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is preferred.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy while understanding of the need for confidentiality.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact comfortably, confidently and calmly while building and maintaining professional relationships at all levels.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; demonstrated accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Detail oriented, with strong multi-tasking, organizational and administrative skills including proofreading and editing.
  • Positive, proactive, self-motivated, and results oriented.
  • Able to serve as an interface for the organization.
  • Demonstrated excellence writing policies and performance management documents.
  • Able to learn quickly, evaluate and analyze information, solve problems, and perform a variety of tasks.
  • Equally comfortable working independently or as a contributor in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and comply with Canadian payroll legislation and associated processes.
  • Understanding of U.S. payroll legislation is preferred.
