Job Summary
An excellent senior opportunity for a dedicated professional!
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a designated Mental Health facility and part of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Services are delivered on-site in Coquitlam, Prince George and Vernon and community services are provided across the province.
The Maples services young people ages 12-17 with enduring and severe mental health or behavioural challenges; as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or Unfit to Stand Trial under the Criminal Code of Canada & Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Additional services include community consultation service, training / capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.
Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.
On site' programs provide a period of clinical evaluation, stabilization, treatment intervention and follow- up in a structured setting;
as well as support for families / caregivers and the development of a comprehensive plan of care. Program areas operate with a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and childcare counsellors.
- Community programs are similarly configured but delivered within the home community.
- Constellation of services offered include : medical / psychiatric evaluation; multi-disciplinary assessment and plans of care;
- family therapy, education and support; educational opportunities for youth through the Burnaby School District; vocational, recreational and social interactive experiences;
on-going outreach and respite services; on-going program evaluation; participation in research & teaching.
This position conducts psychological assessments and develops community care plans for youth with significant psychiatric and behavioural difficulties, mental illness and youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial.
Job Requirements :
- PhD in Clinical Psychology.
- NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).
You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Registered (or in the process of being registered) with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia as a Psychologist.
Applicants with a Ph. D. and eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia may be considered for appointment at a lower classification.
As a condition of continued employment, such an appointee is required to become registered as a Licensed Psychologist.)
- Completion of a psychological pre-or post-doctoral internship of 1600 hours in a child and youth mental health or hospital setting with specialization in formal psychological assessment, diagnoses and treatment of mental health disorders.
- Experience in Child and Adolescent Psychology and Forensic Psychology.
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following :
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.

About this Position :
There are currently five (5) permanent opportunities available. Temporary or part time opportunities may also be considered.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
