Overview
We are hiring a full-time, permanent Reliability Engineer working out of Edmonton, AB. In this role, you will be responsible for managing distribution and transmission system reliability, ensuring compliance with Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) thresholds, and supporting long-term planning strategies. You will apply advanced analytics, engineering principles, and innovative solutions to maintain and improve system performance.
This position may be eligible for our hybrid work program.
What you’d be responsible for
Prepare and authenticate annual system reliability reports and conduct root cause analyses for outages
Evaluate equipment failure modes and recommend strategies to reduce risk and downtime
Monitor system performance to ensure compliance with established reliability metrics
Identify potential operational bottlenecks or risks introduced by planning decisions and recommend mitigation strategies
Respond to customer and regulator inquiries on reliability issues and provide engineering solutions
Track and analyze reliability metrics using advanced modeling and monitoring tools to forecast performance
Gather operational performance data and feed insights back into planning models to improve accuracy and reliability
Support contingency planning and operational flexibility for system expansion and asset replacement
Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to implement proactive reliability measures within budget
Lead development of statistical models and visualizations for power distribution and transmission projects; authenticate engineering deliverables and provide technical expertise to ensure reliability and maintainability of new installations
Provide governance over the Data Analytics system including approving access to the system and monitoring Data Analytics dashboards to ensure data quality in terms of completeness, timeliness and accuracy
Support business cases and regulatory filings to ensure compliance with reliability and regulatory standards
What’s required to be successful
Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred); Graduate degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field is an asset
Currently registered or eligible to be registered with APEGA
5+ years of relevant experience; exposure to utility asset management and power distribution system design or operation is preferred
Formal education in statistical analysis and predictive analytics with demonstrable proficiency in applying statistical analysis, machine learning (ML) and / or artificial intelligence (AI) to real world problems
Knowledge of PASS55 / ISO 55000 in an asset management context
Knowledge of the AUC regulatory approval process is an asset
Training in business process improvement / design (Six Sigma is an asset)
Strong ability to translate data insights into actionable engineering solutions
Experience with Power BI, Python, Azure, DataBricks, and big data environments is preferred
Effective collaborator with strong relationship-building skills across teams and stakeholders
Excellent planning and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and make sound decisions
