The Position

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the senior management team who will provide sound, progressive and engaging leadership while contributing to the effective corporate management of the organization.

The Candidate :

Leadership and Strategy

Leading the development and implementation of short, medium and long-term financial strategies, including financial planning, reporting and monitoring systems, and ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic direction.

Influence

Providing professional advice and objective financial analyses that enable decision-makers to make timely and informed business decisions.

Ensuring that opportunities and risks are fully considered and those decisions are aligned with the overall financial strategies.

Financial Management and Control

Leading the promotion and delivery of solid financial management practices so that assets are safeguarded at all times and are used appropriately, economically, efficiently, and effectively.

Direct Finance

Determining the resources, expertise and systems for the finance function that are sufficient to meet business needs and negotiate these within the overall financial framework.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities :

  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • Experience with First Nations government or local government.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive financial leadership and business experience.
  • First Nation's cultural awareness.
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards.
  • A strong ability to navigate and interpret legislative laws, agreements and policy is a requirement.
  • Able to make good strategic decisions, to manage projects.
  • Strong sense of personal integrity and ethical practices.
  • Excellent change management, interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through facilitating, networking, motivating, and leading.
