Community Engagement, Outreach and Education Coordinator

Position: Permanent full-time
Department: Community Engagement, Outreach & Education
Reports to: Community Engagement & Outreach Director
Location: Onsite in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Salary Range: $46,000 – $51,000 annually plus benefits and group RRSP

About the Role
Shaw Festival is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative Community Engagement, Outreach Coordinator to support the administrative operations of the Community Engagement, Outreach, and Education department, based in the new Shaw Artists Village – Burton Centre for Lifelong Creativity and Visitors’ Residence. This is an important administrative role and plays a vital part in the smooth functioning of the educational and artistic activities in the new Burton Centre for Lifelong Creativity and Visitors’ Residence.

This position is based on-site at the Shaw Artists Village, located next to the Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This is not a remote position.

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of administrative skill and strong communication abilities. A background in Arts Education is considered an asset.

Required qualifications
– Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
– Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities
– Ability to perform some physical tasks; ability to lift 40lbs
– High level of attention to detail
– Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
– Excellent interpersonal skills
– Valid driver’s license

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome and Security
– Front line security for admittance:
• Ensure general public check in or sign in, wear and return a Shaw visitor’s pass
• Direct general public where to attend various activities and events
• Post signage, memos, and reminders throughout the Burton Centre and Visitors’ Residence
• Liaise with Front of House Manager prior to Art of Ideas, MSDD, Special Celebrations and other programming in the Village Hall
•Update the Community Engagement, Outreach, Education team regarding changes or emergencies throughout the Burton Centre and Visitors’ Residence.

• Events
– Daily, weekly, monthly research Shaw events & season performance schedule since they are evolving

• Communications
– Answer incoming telephone calls
– Greet patrons, public, and company members at Burton Centre entrance
– In event of Emergency follow established protocols and contact 911

• Mail/Local Delivery
– Weekly check at Stage Door / Annex mail slots for mail for Community Engagement, Outreach & Education Dept
– Regularly liaise with Distribution

• Lost and Found
– Receive and maintain lost and found box and documentation;
• Identify room/venue in which lost item was found and event/performance date
• Attempt to track down patron or staff and follow up with recipient for retrieval
• Deposit at Reception / Stage Door at end of day

• Office Supplies
– Order necessary office supplies for department.

• Petty Cash
– Maintain petty cash for:
• Reimbursement of vending machine malfunctions
• Department purchases for programming
• Postage stamp purchases

Keys
• Buildings
– Maintain secure storage and inventory of Burton Centre and Visitors’ Residence Building keys/fobs/cards as provided.
– Record sign out of key assignments

• Vehicles
– Maintain secure storage and inventory of Education Van keys.
– Oversee maintenance of Education van
– Record sign out of key assignments
