Nurse Practitioner - MRHH C3 Purple Mental Health
Permanent Full Time
Reporting to the Director, Mental Health, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide acute care, consultative services, and care planning for patients with a mental health diagnosis in the inpatient and outpatient mental health departments.
The NP will work in collaboration and consultation with Psychiatry, medical staff, nursing and members of the inter-professional care team.
The NP has advanced knowledge, skill and decision-making skills in providing comprehensive health focused approach in meeting the health needs of patients with mental health presentations.
The NP will demonstrate leadership in evidence-based practice, participate in quality improvement and act as a mentor to nurses and other interprofessional colleagues.
The NP will be well supported within a collaborative team that includes physicians, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses and Social Workers.
Contribute to safe, quality care by
- Understanding scope of practice of the nurse practitioner along with responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Consulting with and / or referring clients to other health-care providers at any point in the care continuum when the client’s condition is not within the nurse practitioner’s scope of practice or the individual nurse practitioner’s competence.
- Advocating for clients in relation to therapeutic interventions, health care access, the health care system and policy decisions that affect health and quality of life.
- Collaborating with members of the health care team to provide and promote interprofessional client-centred care at the individual, organizational and system levels.
- Contributing to a safe, inclusive environment for all through compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
What must you have?
- Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as an Extended Class RN and is a member in good standing.
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent clinical experience in Mental Health.
- Advanced knowledge, skill and decision making and expertise in the treatment of patients with mental health diagnosis.
- Superior interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
- Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills.
- Clinical experience working in mental health with knowledge of psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders.

Preferably, your profile also includes :
- Membership in the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario.
- Membership in the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, preferred.
- CNA (Canadian Nurse Association) Certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (C)anada is an asset.
- This position is represented by ONA.
