Job Summary
As project demand continues to grow across Canada, ProConnex is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team in Burnaby, BC, and enhance our technical capabilities while supporting our expanding client base. The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD, experienced in the design of steel structures, and familiar with relevant design codes. They should be capable of developing steel connection designs from concept through to detailed engineering sketches.
The successful candidate will bring excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities
- Design structural steel connections (shear, moment, bracing, HSS connections, truss nodes, base plates, embeds, etc.).
- Determine plate sizes, bolt patterns, weld sizes, stiffeners, and related components.
- Ensure compliance with CSA S16 and project-specific standards.
- Use SAP2000, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office for calculations and documentation.
- Create connection details, sketches, markups, and engineering notes in AutoCAD.
- Verify clarity for fabrication and adherence to drafting standards.
- Perform quality assurance checks for drawing accuracy and code compliance.
- Maintain organized documentation of calculations, design revisions, RFIs, and project correspondence.
- Manage RFIs, change orders, revision requests, and engineering queries.
- Coordinate with fabricators, detailers, and engineers of record to resolve technical issues.
- Assist during site inspections to verify field conditions and validate design assumptions.
- Participate in scope reviews, kickoff meetings, and client coordination discussions.
Requirements
B.Sc. in Civil or Structural Engineering.5+ years of structural engineering experience; steel connection design experience preferred.Registered P.Eng. in British Columbia or eligible for registration.Experience working with steel fabricators or detailing firms is an asset.Strong understanding of load paths, member behaviour, and material response.Deep familiarity with structural drawings (plans, sections, elevations, schedules, connection details).Knowledge of steel design principles, fabrication processes, and shop / erection drawing practices.Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines.Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.Occasional site visits may be required depending on project needs.#J-18808-Ljbffr
