About the Role
The Regulatory Specialist plays a key role in ensuring finished food products meet all applicable food safety, regulatory, and certification requirements at the time of sale across domestic and international markets. You will report directly to the Director, Food Safety & Quality.
This position sits at the intersection of regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and cross-functional collaboration. Depending on experience, the role may focus on hands-on regulatory execution or expand into strategic oversight, leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Objectives of the Role
- Lead and manage the supplier approval program , including raw material and supplier risk assessments, documentation, and ongoing compliance oversight.
- Build and maintain an international regulatory library for all raw materials , ensuring regulatory requirements, specifications, and certifications are current and accessible to the business.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure finished products comply with national and international food regulations and certification standards (e.g., CFIA, FDA, EU, Codex, Kosher, Halal, GFCP).Support or lead regulatory assessments for new product development, reformulations, and product changes.Review and approve labels, ingredient statements, allergen declarations, and certification claims.Create, maintain, and improve regulatory documentation, product specifications, and technical data packages.Support new product launches by completing regulatory reviews, approvals, and risk assessments.Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams to ensure timely regulatory clearance for commercialization.Contribute to launch readiness through accurate specifications, labels, and customer-facing documentation.Supplier & Raw Material Compliance
Lead or support the supplier approval program, including new raw material and supplier approvals.Complete ongoing supplier risk assessments and maintain supplier documentation.Build and maintain a comprehensive international regulatory library for raw materials.Participate in supplier investigations, RCA / CAPA activities, and audits as required.Product Information & Customer Support
Manage and respond to customer product information requests and technical documentation needs.Prepare regulatory and technical documentation packages for domestic and export customers.Support customer audits, questionnaires, and regulatory inquiries.Quality & Food Safety Support
Act as a key support and backup for QC Technicians, including hands-on lab support when required.Conduct or oversee allergen and certification testing in line with production schedules.Approve production schedules from a regulatory, allergen, and certification perspective.Support food safety programs including HACCP, GMPs, BRCGS, Kosher, Halal, GFCP, and customer-specific requirements.Systems, Process Improvement & Collaboration
Maintain regulatory and quality data within electronic systems such as Genesis, LabelView, SharePoint, Business Central, Dynamics CRM, and related tools.Identify opportunities to improve regulatory workflows, systems, and documentation.Collaborate closely with R&D, Sales, QC, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to proactively manage regulatory risk.Participate in internal audits and cross-functional quality, compliance, and operational improvement initiatives.For more senior candidates, this role may also include mentoring junior team members, leading regulatory projects, contributing to strategic planning, and supporting digital transformation initiatives.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
College diploma or university degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline — or equivalent industry experience.Experience in food manufacturing, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, or compliance is an asset.Level of responsibility will align with experience and demonstrated capability.Skills & Attributes
