The Opportunity

At Baptist Housing, every day is an opportunity for you to help our seniors experience life well in supportive communities. As a member of our team, you can experience a fulfilling career while working in a collaborative environment where support for you is prioritized. Join our team for a paid training opportunity as a Health Care Support worker via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP).

About HCAP

The Health Career Access Program (HCAP) is a provincial program designed for individuals aspiring to pursue a healthcare career. Starting as a Health Care Support Worker, participants will receive paid training to transition into the role of a Health Care Assistant (HCA). Within the framework of HCAP, the province covers the cost of your post-secondary education while facilitating your placement in an entry-level position within the care sector. Upon successful completion of the training, candidates become eligible to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. Those who accept this opportunity commit to remaining employed as a Care Aide at Baptist Housing for 12 months following graduation. HCAP provides a viable pathway for individuals without prior healthcare experience, offering a combination of employment and sponsored training for a fulfilling career in the healthcare sector.

  • This is a temporary full-time position while you are in the program.
  • Working under the guidance of the Administrator, Registered Nurse, or another regulated healthcare professional, the Health Care Support Worker will provide a range of non-direct and non-clinical healthcare support to clients, residents, families, and visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home settings. These duties will align with established care plans and safety protocols. You will work out of our community at the Heights at Mountain View, located in Victoria, BC.

    Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 10, including the successful completion of English 10, or equivalency;
  • For candidates who did not acquire a Grade 10 certificate / education from Canada, successful completion of an English Language Proficiency Test is required (e.g., CLBPT, IELTS, TOEFL, IBT). Candidates contacted for an interview will be asked to produce a copy of their English Language Proficiency Test before their scheduled interview.
  • No prior completion of an HCA training program in BC; not currently employed in an HCA role;
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency. Proof of documentation will be requested.
  • The candidate must be able to work full-time for 3–6 months as a trainee and attend college full-time for 6 months in a Health Care Assistant Program which includes a practicum and preceptorship.
  • About You

    You deeply care for seniors and build strong relationships with them. You're known for being kind, patient, and compassionate, even when things get tough. You're great at talking to people and listening carefully, which helps you earn trust and respect. You always show up on time and finish tasks reliably. Safety is super important to you, so you handle physical interactions gently. You're flexible and can think fast when plans change or surprises come up.

    About Us

    Baptist Housing provides enhanced living communities and exceptional care to over 2700 seniors in British Columbia. We provide long-term care, assisted living, independent living, and home support in our communities in Kelowna, Vancouver, and Victoria. We're a committed group of people who bring their whole selves to work, and we're also FUN! We take what we do seriously, but not ourselves. Your total compensation includes a wage of $24.80, as outlined by Island Health’s HCAP program. You will be eligible for extended health and dental benefits after six months of employment, continuing through the duration of your HCAP schooling. Alongside a warm and supportive work environment, you will also be welcomed as a member of the HEU union, providing you with valuable collective bargaining support. This comprehensive package is designed to support both your professional growth and personal well-being.
