Duties

Conducts highway / road / street clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles and equipment (big plows) requiring a Class 3 license with air-brake endorsement;

operates / controls multiple blades and salting mechanisms; and performs ancillary road maintenance and labour services for the Parks Canada Agency.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Possession of a valid and current Class 3 Nova Scotia driver’s license, or other provincial equivalency, with air brake endorsement.

Provision of a driver’s abstract is required.

Substantial and extensive experience in the operation of commercial and heavy equipment, such as backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, salt trucks, and snowploughs.

Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe proficient manner.

Experience in the operation of road graders or the ability to be trained to an acceptable level of proficiency in grader operation by Parks Canada.

Ability to identify equipment malfunctions, carry out minor maintenance and repairs, determine the cause and to effectively report them.

Ability to operate a backhoe, in a safe manner, to dig trenches.

Ability to perform general labour tasks as they relate to roads and grounds maintenance.
