Job Purpose
SECURE is currently seeking an experienced Field HSE Advisor to support the Fort McMurray, Alberta region. Reporting to the Manager, HSE and working closely with our site management, this position provides guidance and direction to all site workers including project management, employees, and subcontractors with respect to corporate and client safety policies, practices, procedures, and legislative requirements.
The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, the vision and values of SECURE.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to :
- Demonstrate the capability to work under the direction of HSE leadership on multiple tasks requiring judgment to resolve problems.
- Works with employees, supervisors, and management to identify potential hazards.
- Encourages and promotes a safe work culture with a positive attitude and team approach.
- Performs various levels of worksite inspections and audits and follows through with appropriate levels of coaching and support for all corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions. Complete incident analysis, develop, implement, and follow up on corrective actions utilizing the SECURE incident management system.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, weekly safety meetings and client and HSE team meetings as required.
- Assistance in creating Job Safety Analysis and perform updates as conditions and processes change.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current OH&S legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company standards and policies.
- Provide mentoring to workers and leaders in maintaining safe work habits and practices.
- Participate and contribute with ongoing procedural, policy and other documentation development and updates as required.
- Proactively identifies leading indicators and trends in the field and communicates the same back to the field and corporate.
- Participate and provide advice and guidance to JHSEC.
- Audit HSE programs against regulatory requirements, specified industry standards, and the company’s established standards and requirements.
Perform and participate facility and work site inspections. Prepare and distribute appropriate reports and assist / advise management in the correction of identified deficiencies.
- Maintain all documentation related to hazard identification and assessment.
- Assist with safety planning on construction projects.
- Provide daily updates to department managers regarding previous days incidents or any other safety related concerns.
- Respond to and rectify safety related concerns immediately and ensure that all safety requirements are adhered to at all times.
- Attend regular toolbox talks and scheduled team meetings to provide safety updates and safety statistics.
- Conduct annual reviews of Safe Work Practices, Safe Work Procedures and JHA’s ensuring that they are accurate and effective and that they meet OH&S and Employment Standards requirements.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will have :
- Minimum 5 years in a prior Field HSE Advisor role.
- Experienced working for large ongoing Oilsands projects is an asset.
- HSE diploma / certificate, National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation, Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or Professional (CRSP) is an asset.
- Knowledge of related Occupational Health & Safety legislation as well as Environmental and Transportation regulations.
- Valid Class 5 license with drivers abstract that is acceptable under the SECURE Driver Evaluation program.
- Effective / competent Microsoft Office 365 application user (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Pre-access medical testing is a condition of employment for the role.
Please Note : Applicants must be willing and able to work on a rotational work schedule, which includes fly-in & fly-out to site from Calgary or Edmonton.
