At Wolf Advanced Technology (WOLF), we lead the world in designing and developing rugged, field‑deployable solutions that capture, process, encode, and display embedded video for the most demanding military and aerospace markets. Our products meet the rigorous standards necessary for mission‑critical success and power the next‑generation embedded electronics that serve top defense contractors and aerospace leaders worldwide.
Position Overview
We are looking for a full‑time Engineer, Mechanical based in Aurora, Ontario (hybrid). Reporting to the Director, Engineering (THERM / MECH), you’ll play a mission‑critical role in building rugged, ultra‑efficient mechanical solutions that keep WOLF’s cutting‑edge embedded electronics cooled, protected, and ready for the world’s toughest defense and aerospace environments.
Responsibilities
- Design mission‑ready assemblies : Build mechanical models and structures in SolidWorks that withstand shock, vibration, and harsh‑environment requirements.
- Develop manufacturable solutions : Create detailed part and assembly drawings optimized for fabrication, machining, and DFM / DFA considerations.
- Validate thermal performance : Apply fundamentals of heat transfer, cooling strategies, and thermal interfaces to support high‑power electronics.
- Lead hands‑on troubleshooting : Diagnose mechanical issues, root‑cause failures, and refine designs to improve ruggedness and system reliability.
- Execute environmental testing : Run vibration, thermal, and qualification tests in the lab, capturing precise results and translating findings into design updates.
- Collaborate across engineering : Work closely with PCB, electrical, and product teams to align component placement, mechanical constraints, and system requirements.
- Support prototype development : Assist with concept builds, risk analysis, feasibility checks, and early‑stage validation activities.
- Own technical documentation : Produce clear, concise drawings, reports, and build documentation that guide internal teams, customers, and manufacturing partners.
Your Edge
You hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics and bring 3+ years of hands‑on experience designing mechanical assemblies for complex electronic systems in aerospace, defense, or high‑reliability hardware environments. You have proven capability in 2D / 3D CAD design and a strong understanding of mechanical requirements that support high‑power embedded electronics.
CAD expertise : SolidWorks proficiency for detailed part modelling, assemblies, and mechanical layout.DFM and DFA knowledge : Understanding of manufacturing constraints and design optimisation.Thermal fundamentals : Working knowledge of heat transfer, cooling strategies, and thermal interface materials.Environmental test awareness : Familiarity with vibration, shock, and environmental qualification processes.GD&T understanding : Ability to apply geometric dimensioning and tolerance principles.Standards familiarity : Exposure to DO 160, AS9100, MIL STD 810, and MIL STD 901D.VITA experience : Understanding of VPX and XMC mechanical specifications.Material & coating insight : Awareness of anodizing, electroless nickel plating, and advanced thermal materials such as pyrolytic graphite.Analytical thinking : Ability to interpret lab data, assess performance outcomes, and propose mechanical improvements.Lab capability : Experience assembling prototypes, performing mechanical or thermal validation tasks, and documenting results.Cross‑functional alignment : Ability to integrate mechanical considerations with PCB, electrical, and system‑level requirements.Technical documentation : Skill in producing clear mechanical drawings, test reports, and customer‑facing technical material.Benefits
Top‑Tier Compensation : $95,000 to $125,000 (negotiable based on experience).Wellness & Coverage : Health Care Spending Account, short‑ and long‑term disability plans, and a monthly Wellness Allowance.Generous Time Off : Two weeks’ paid vacation (negotiable), plus an additional week of company‑wide holiday shutdown.Profit Sharing : Participate in profit‑sharing program after one year of service.Relocation Support : Assistance available for the right candidate.Professional Development : Budget for training, conferences, and memberships.Team Culture : Regular social events—from food‑truck lunches and sports outings to bi‑weekly wellness mornings and holiday parties.EEO & Eligibility
