The Turkey Farmers of Canada (TFC) is a national industry association representing the interests of turkey producers, and the sector generally.

TFC is dedicated to fostering growth, sustainability, and innovation within the Canadian turkey industry. With a commitment to excellence and collaboration, TFC plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and initiatives that impact the industry's economic affairs and position on international trade.

As the Director of Economic Affairs & International Trade, you will spearhead strategic planning and analysis in the realm of quota and other policy development, and international trade.

This pivotal role involves overseeing market information flow, analysis, and policy administration functions within the TFC Office, while representing TFC on various Agency, industry, and government committees.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will :

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities and challenges and develop and implement policies and strategic plans to advance the economic interests of the Canadian turkey industry.
  • Work closely with and supervise two direct reports focused on research, analysis, and the development, review and policy recommendations on a wide range of economic and trade-related issues.
  • Stay abreast of domestic and international developments, regulations, and agreements to ensure TFC's operational policies, procedures and regulations remain relevant and advocate for TFC's interests during trade negotiations.
  • Serve as a key advocate for the Canadian turkey industry in discussions with government bodies, trade associations, and international organizations.
  • Represent TFC's interests on various committees, forums, and working groups to influence policy decisions and trade negotiations, including the Agency’s Supply Policy Committee and Chair the Turkey Market Advisory Committee.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and dissemination of market data and economic indicators relevant to the turkey industry at TFC Board meetings, Executive Committee meetings, and other relevant gatherings, and through various external collaborations and communications.
  • Utilize insights to inform decision-making processes, assess market trends, and identify opportunities for growth and diversification for various stakeholders in the turkey and greater poultry industry.
  • Foster strong relationships with TFC members, provincial boards, industry partners, government officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to promote a unified approach to industry challenges and opportunities.
  • Assess potential risks and vulnerabilities associated with international trade agreements, market access, and regulatory changes and develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to safeguard the interests of TFC and its stakeholders in an evolving global landscape.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to internal teams and external partners on economic analysis, trade policy, and market access issues.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development to enhance organizational capabilities and resilience.

Your background includes :

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., political science, economics, public administration); master’s degree preferred.
  • Working experience in or knowledge of public administration, policy development, international trade, politics, economics, and / or current affairs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
  • Minimum of five years of related work experience in a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong research and interpersonal skills.
  • Professionalism, diplomacy, and organizational proficiency.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Fluency in English and French (spoken, written, and comprehension), is preferred.
  • Willingness to undertake domestic and international travel.

This full-time position with a hybrid work environment. The TFC office is in Mississauga, Ontario and domestic travel is required for the Director role.

There is some international travel for conferences, industry events, and trade related meetings, as needed.
