The Day Camp Facilitator assists with organizing and implementing summer day camp programs that provide learning and recreational opportunities for children and early youth in Devon. This position provides a leadership role through implementing the day camps and working with program volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibility 1 : Implementation of day camps
- Ensure organization and readiness of camps daily
- Create fun and engaging moments for participants to enhance their camp experience
- Ensure children’s safety while attending the programs
- Provide support to program participants during challenging moments
- Interact with parents of participants and answer questions
- Supervise and ensure safety of participants on field trip
- Provide an engaging camp environment where the children feel a sense of belonging and are able to participate in themed activities no matter their ability.
Responsibility 2 : Volunteer coordination
Attend a Leaders in Training session to meet and establish a relationship with volunteersAssist in evaluating volunteers throughout & at the end of the summerPlan a volunteer recognition for the end of the summerResponsibility 3 : Health and Safety Protocols
Fill out proper forms when needed (i.e. incident forms)Ensure First Aid kit is stocked with appropriate and current itemsFollow all current Government of Alberta health protocolsResponsibility 4 : Evaluation of Programs
Evaluate all summer programs identifying areas of success and areas for improvementMake recommendations for following yearResponsibility 5 : Obtain Career Related Experience
Check in with supervisor once per week and discuss successes, areas for improvement, and identify areas of supportFind opportunities to take a leadership role in the day camps with supervision from Day Camp ProgrammerEstablish leadership skills by working with and evaluating summer volunteersAssist with Town of Devon event activities, specific to children and youth.Qualifications
Education :
Grade 12 DiplomaEnrollment in post-secondary education in an applicable degree program (ie. Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or Education) will be seen as an assetStandard First Aid, and CPR level CTraining in High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development will be seen as an asset.Experience :
Experience working or volunteering with children and children’s programmingDemonstrated experience in program facilitation, communication, and problem-solving skills.Time management and priority settings skillsAbility to take initiative on projects related to summer camp programsAbility to work well in an individual and team environmentSatisfactory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Persons Check must be provided prior to starting.#J-18808-Ljbffr
