The Opportunity

Are you a progressive and modern health and safety leader that wants the opportunity to take on an exciting challenge of moving CAA Atlantic’s health and safety program to the next level?

As the Manager, Health and Safety you will be responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing in partnership with the existing team, leading health and safety practices to ensure that our employees, members, customers and the public are safe and healthy.

The incumbent will work closely with leaders and their teams to ensure their unique safety needs are fully supported. This is a great opportunity for a dynamic health and safety leader to put their stamp on an organization’s health and safety practices and work with an incredibly collaborative group on our strategy.

The Manager, Health and Safety will report to the Vice President, People and Culture and will oversee all health and safety responsibilities at CAA Atlantic’s 7 locations across the 4 Atlantic Provinces.

This position could be in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, or Saint John New Brunswick.

Responsibilities :

  • Identify, develop, source and implement modern health and safety programs and initiatives that supports our safety first culture at CAA Atlantic
  • Work with internal and external partners to ensure that the necessary training and education is delivered in a meaningful way that our employees are equipped to reduce of safety related incidents / accidents
  • Utilizes health and safety analytics to proactively identify areas of opportunity and track progress on the impacts of the new health and safety programs put in place
  • Performing site visits to facilities and ride along with our fleet to identify potential safety opportunities and implement solutions to improve potential areas of concern
  • Ensure vehicles, facilities, tools and equipment are being maintained to applicable safety standards
  • Lead investigations of workplace incidents or near misses
  • Managing disability and WCB claims and processes
  • Develop a safety program to assist our extensive contractor network
  • Develop, establish, implement, and manage health and well-being related programs that promote optimum health and wellness of the workforce.
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation Board claims

Your Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have completed a post-secondary degree or diploma in occupational health and safety, along with a minimum of 8+ years of experience with the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of safety policies, programs and systems.

Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is a must have. The successful candidate will possess broad knowledge and understanding of industrial, transportation or equivalent environments.

With excellent written and oral communication skills, you will possess solid analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Strong computer application and effective presentation skills are essential to success in this position. A valid motor vehicle driver’s license is a must.
